1.0 Reporting and Location:
1.1 The Tool Design engineer will report to the Injection Mould Solutions Manager or PMC Manager and be based in the Carrick-on-Shannon site. Working closely with customers and suppliers, in the support of tooling development from the Pilot Tooling Phase to the Industrialisation Phase. Provide detailed design and tool manufacturing support to assigned projects within the Product Development Team.
1.2 The role is based on the Carrick-on-Shannon site and allows for remote working.
2.0 Job Description and Responsibilities:
2.1 The position requires a highly motivated, self-starter, experienced tooling design Engineer with extensive 3D CAD design and moulding experience.
2.2 Engineering Degree in Tool Design with extensive hands-on experience with injection moulding tools.
2.3 Proven project management experience in a similar role in mould making and mould design. Qualification in Project Management would be a distinct advantage i.e., PMP or equivalent.
2.4 Extensive practical experience in Computer Aided Design in SolidWorks, Solidedge, coupled with the ability to deliver key support to Prior PLM Medical in this area of technology. Must know about computer systems, integrated manufacturing systems, word processing and spreadsheets.
2.5 Minimum of ten years' experience in the design, manufacture, and project management of the following mould types:
2.6 Design and development of multi-cavity moulds
2.7 Design and development of pilot moulds
2.8 Design and development of pilot fixtures for metrology
2.9 Hot Runner moulds, Cold Runner / Semi Hot Runner moulds, Valve gated moulds
2.10 Good understanding of the injection moulding process across a range of machine types and configurations.
2.11 Preferably having work experience within the Medical, Pharmaceutical or Packaging Industries aligned within a regulated manufacturing environment.
2.12 Ability to interact with suppliers, customers, and external toolmakers.
2.13 Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with all internal and external customers of the Prior PLM Medical Product Development Division.
2.14 Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to accurately document work performed.
2.15 Any other tasks as requested by management.
3.0 Role Requirements:
3.1 Designing multi-cavity high precision moulds for demanding technical applications and specifying and developing total moulding solutions to meet the demands of the Prior PLM Medical customer base.
3.2 Successful management and delivery of new tooling projects to agreed project time scale and budgets.
3.3 Successful handover of new projects from a pre-production stage to mass production at Prior PLM Medical and within predetermined quality and cost guidelines
3.4 Ensure suppliers meet customer and Prior PLM Medicals tooling needs
3.5 Liaise with customer, supplier, and Prior PLM Medical personnel during;
* Tool design
* Tool build
* Initial toolmaker trials
* Tool validation
4.0 Qualifications:
4.1 Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent level 8 qualification.
years' experience in a similar role.
4.3 Knowledge and or experience in the use of FEA, CFD and Moldflow.
4.4 Knowledge of polymers and injection moulding.
4.5 Demonstration of the application of design skills and manufacturing methods.
4.6 Ability to use precise measuring instruments.
4.7 An aptitude for maths.
4.8 Good hand-to-eye coordination.
4.9 An eye for detail.
4.10 Accuracy.
4.11 Be able to work on your own as well as work in a team.
