Overview of role:
UPMC are hiring a porter to join our Kilkenny Aut Even Hospital.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Transport patients to and from operating theatre with a member of nursing staff.
* Assist with transporting wheelchair, bed bound and mobile patients to various departments within the Hospital such as X-Ray, Ultrasound, MRI, Physiotherapy, Cardiology.
* To collect and deliver blood samples from floor level to Aut Even Specimen Reception.
* To transport blood samples to/from and collect reports and units of blood for transfusion as requested
* Being aware of and adhering to hospital policy and guidelines on the Transport and Collection of blood and blood products.
* Collect Oncology charts each morning - Monday to Friday, deliver/collect the Oncology charts to/from Oncology Ward in Aut Even to St Luke's Hospital Oncology Ward.
* Pharmacy items, Medical Records charts for Infusion
* Urgent bloods from Aut Even Specimen Reception/Lab staff.
* CT runs as required.
* Assist Nursing Staff if requested with safe handling of heavy immobile patients at ward level and in operating theatre, using where appropriate lifting aids provided.
* Assist when requested in maintenance of operating theatre service lift ensuring it is emptied and clean for constant use.
* Ensure all equipment used e.g. trolleys, wheelchairs are in good working order and safe for use by patients. Report any defects noted and mark equipment "out of order"
* Assist Nursing Staff with:
* Patients being admitted or discharged out of or into ambulance or cars if requested.
* Patients luggage on admission and discharge.
* Be responsible for preparation of Board Room or any other room for conferences, meetings or education as requested to include the movement and care of audio visual equipment.
* To constantly assess the patient movement within the hospital and appropriately react to provide an efficient and friendly service to patients in collaboration with all departments i.e. physiotherapy, radiology, operating theatre.
* To work and to assist in maintaining the highest level of Health and Safety Standards within the work area and report any untoward or unusual incidents or accidents within this brief in order to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues and at all times complying with the Hospital Health and Safety Statement.
* To maintain a security vigilance for any persons acting suspiciously and report same and alert Gardai if appropriate.

Requirements:
* Full clean drivers licence
* Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential.
