Basic Grade Radiographer - MRI, 11 Month FTC - UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford
Location: UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford. Job type: Fixed Term.
Overview of role
The Diagnostic Imaging Department provides a service to both inpatients and outpatients, including General Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Ultrasound, DEXA, MRI, CT and CathLab services. The holder of this post will work as a member of the Radiography Department and multi‑disciplinary teams, providing a high‑quality radiography service to patients in assigned areas in accordance with professional standards of practice.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
General
Participate in the general radiography service daily in the assigned area and proactively undertake training to up‑skill and develop within the profession.
Participate in an out‑of‑hours service as required.
Maintain accountability for high standards in patient care and radiographic techniques.
Adhere to radiation protection principles (justification, optimisation, ALARA and dose limits) and follow local rules.
Comply with statutory instruments.
Maintain up‑to‑date clinical and technical knowledge and seek advice and training where required.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment and adhere to health and safety guidelines.
Report equipment faults to the designated supervisor and document the fault in the appropriate log folder.
Participate in routine QA procedures and the UPMC accreditation process as required.
Familiarise and comply with relevant legislation and operational policies such as radiation regulations, fire regulations, infection control and local procedures.
Maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and other staff at departmental level and across the hospital.
Undertake further training courses as required to provide a quality service and for continuous professional development.
Undertake any duties appropriate to the post as directed by the consultant radiologist or radiology services manager in line with service needs.
Take a proactive role in the ongoing accreditation process as set out by UPMC.
Information Resources
Be an efficient user of the RIS, PACS and other systems required to fulfil duties on a daily basis.
Develop skills to use information technology to collate and analyse data for presentation at departmental meetings as required.

Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers validated by the Department of Health.
Knowledge & Experience
At least 1–2 years’ experience in a radiography department (desirable).
Desirable CT experience.
Desirable DEXA experience.
Good working knowledge of the RIS system.
Available for on‑call duties (desirable).
Ability to manage in a rapidly changing environment and willingness to undertake additional duties within the Department.
Strong awareness of radiation safety.
Knowledge of health & safety.
Demonstrated up‑to‑date knowledge of current theory and practice in diagnostic radiography.

Salary: €44,955.86 - €62,869.46 per annum based on a 35 hour week
