As an Automation Co-Op Student, you will perform a wide variety of technical work in the design and validation of next generation technologies and automated systems for the Joint Replacement business.
These innovative systems will transform the manufacturing process for our power brand hip stems.
This role will support the Automation Team as they bring new technologies and automated systems to site.

Responsibilities and tasks
Under supervision, assist in the design, development, and verification of new automated processes
Concept Design & Evaluation: contribute to designing systems and evaluating their performance through systematic testing
Executing POPs (Proof of Principles): collaborate with vendors and perform hands-on testing to verify performance
Generation of Validation documentation
Assist in Detailed Design Reviews
Support problem-solving and root cause analysis to identify and evaluate potential solutions against defined requirements
Conduct research and studies to support innovative system design
Process Optimisation
With supervision, work with vendors, Quality, Operations, EHS, Maintenance and Project Management to ensure project success
Creation and participation in Risk Assessments, PFMEA, Control Plans, SOPs associated with introduction of new automated processes
Learn procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required
Work on problems in limited scope; purposefully learn while gaining experience
Demonstrate ownership and integrity of work
Build stable relationships with key stakeholders
Contribute to the project as a team member
What you will need
Studying / completed a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
Fundamental Knowledge
Understanding / experience with automated systems, robotics, vision systems, PLCs, etc. is an advantage
Experience in executing complex problem solving techniques related to manufacturing/design technical issues; good instincts and sound judgement for mechanical and structural design
Good understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), related statistical tools and validation/verification techniques
Analytical skills; ability to plan, organise and implement concurrent tasks
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, product and process design
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings; understanding geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing
Demonstrable analytical & problem-solving skills, a process improvement orientation, and ability to handle multiple tasks
Excellent cross-function communication skills
Willingness to learn new technologies
