We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing to lead the clinical, operational, and people management functions of a newly refurbished nursing home in Ballygunner, Co.Waterford. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for maintaining high standards of resident care in line with national regulations and best practice.
The Role
As Director of Nursing, you will provide strategic and clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, person-centred, and high-quality care. You will foster a positive culture for residents and staff while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership, direction, and management of the nursing home
Ensure compliance with the Health Act 2007, HIQA regulations, and National Quality Standards
Maintain excellent standards of residential care, safeguarding, and resident wellbeing
Lead, support, and supervise clinical and non-clinical teams to promote high performance and morale
Promote a respectful, inclusive, and person-centred care environment
Actively support safeguarding practices, including prevention, reporting, and management of concerns
Oversee staffing, rostering, skill mix, and performance management
Maintain effective communication with residents, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Be available to support operational needs, including occasional night or weekend cover
Education & Qualifications
Third-level degree in Nursing
Registered with An Bord Altranais (active PIN required)
Post-registration qualification in healthcare management (or willingness to undertake required training)
Additional qualifications in gerontology or dementia care are desirable
Up-to-date training in infection control, medication management, manual handling, CPR, dementia care, and safeguarding (training can be provided)
Skills & Experience
Minimum 6 years post-registration nursing experience
At least 3 years’ experience in a senior or managerial nursing role
Minimum 3 years’ recent experience in eldercare nursing
Strong clinical knowledge and a genuine commitment to high-quality care for older persons
Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
Full Irish driving licence and access to own transport
