A West Coast Role Where Life & Practice Actually Balance

Imagine finishing work and heading for the beach, the hills of Connemara, or a café in Galway city – all before the evening is out. At Barna & Moycullen Vets, this is everyday life.

We're looking for a friendly, capable Veterinary Surgeon to join our small, supportive team on Ireland's west coast. This is a role for someone who enjoys first-opinion practice, values teamwork, and wants the space to do good medicine without constant pressure or burnout. Whether you're keen to broaden your experience or simply craving a better pace of life, this position offers both professional fulfilment and lifestyle appeal.

The Role – Varied, Supportive & Well-Structured

This is a full-time fixed-term contract (minimum 7 months, with potential to extend depending on practice needs), working a 36‑hour week across four days. The rota is designed with balance in mind and includes 1 in 4 Saturdays, two on‑call weeknights per month, and 5–6 weekends per year, including one bank holiday.

Clinically, you'll enjoy a broad and interesting small animal caseload – consultations, diagnostics, routine surgery and emergency care – all within a calm, collaborative environment. You'll never feel isolated, with experienced colleagues around you and a team that genuinely looks out for one another.

What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from VCI‑registered Veterinary Surgeons with at least 12 months' general practice experience, who are confident in routine first‑opinion work and standard surgeries.

You'll be someone who:

* Enjoys managing cases independently when needed
* Communicates clearly with clients and colleagues
* Takes pride in patient care and clinical standards
* Values teamwork, kindness and professionalism

Whether you're still building confidence or bringing years of experience, there's room here for you to feel settled, supported, and appreciated.

Nestled between Galway City and the wild beauty of Connemara, Barna & Moycullen Vets has been caring for pets and their families for years with warmth, professionalism, and a personal touch.

We're a 100% small animal practice with two modern, purpose‑built clinics – both well equipped with digital X‑ray, ultrasound, IDEXX lab suite, and dental X‑ray (coming soon).

Our dedicated team of 4 vets, 4 nurses, and a practice manager foster a supportive, close‑knit working environment where collaboration and continuous learning are part of the culture. With a loyal client base and relaxed working pace, you'll have time to provide thorough, compassionate care – and to enjoy the stunning coastal lifestyle right on your doorstep.

Why Join Us?

Alongside a competitive salary and relocation support, you'll benefit from being part of the wider IVC Evidensia network, with excellent professional development opportunities and long‑term career options should you wish to stay on in the group.

Benefits include (pro‑rata):

* 22 days annual leave + paid birthday leave
* €1,300 CPD allowance + 5 paid CPD days
* Certificate funding and development support
* Enhanced parental leave packages
* Company sick pay and bereavement leave
* Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support
* Cycle to work scheme and employer pension contributions
* Annual pay reviews and progression pathways
* CARE fund – €1,100 annually to go the extra mile for a patient
* Pawesome Benefits: discounts with major retailers
* Inclusive workplace with dedicated employee groups (LGBTQ+, BAME, Wellbeing Champions, etc)
