Role Overview
Manager, Systems Administration (Europe) – leads end-to-end reliability, resilience and high availability of European infrastructure services. Reports to the IT Director, Europe & Asia. Responsibilities include infrastructure architecture, identity & access management, virtualisation, networking, cloud services, vendor management, documentation, patching, escalation and global platform decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead infrastructure installation, operations and lifecycle management of servers, storage and network infrastructure.
Own operational health of Windows/Linux, VMware/Hyper‑V and cloud services, maintaining secure configuration baselines and patching.
Lead service desk escalation, problem management, root‑cause analysis and permanent fixes to minimise repeat incidents.
Define, implement and continuously improve backup, DR and business continuity with RTO/RPO targets and fail‑over tests.
Ensure security and compliance of infrastructure services through vulnerability management and secure design.
Design, configure and support LAN/WAN, firewalls and wireless for reliable connectivity and troubleshooting.
Automate and script operations using PowerShell and Bash to improve consistency and reliability.
Maintain architecture, runbooks, recovery procedures and share knowledge through coaching.
Manage suppliers and vendors, ensuring SLA compliance and value for money.
Implement monitoring, alerting and logging to reduce MTTR and support high availability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support or IT operations at enterprise level.
Experience providing L2/L3 escalation support and leading root‑cause analysis.
Strong skills in VMware, Hyper‑V, Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP.
Proficient with Microsoft 365, Azure, Entra, Conditional Access, Azure MFA, Intune.
Experience with LAN/WAN (L2/L3), VPN, routing, SSL certificates, next‑gen firewalls (Cisco, Aruba, Palo Alto, UniFi).
Monitoring and performance‑management tools with a focus on reducing incidents and improving availability.
Backup and DR solutions experience (Veeam, Acronis, Rubrik).
PowerShell/Bash scripting and automation.
Experience with ITSM ticketing (ServiceNow, Jira) and ITIL processes.
Structured, data‑driven problem solving and strong communication skills.
Requirement to travel across European locations.
Desirable / Advantageous
Privileged Access Management or CyberArk experience.
CCNA/CCNP or equivalent networking certification.
SQL Server administration.
Understanding of Microsoft licensing.
