The role of an Electrician involves a range of tasks that focus on the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems within buildings.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
* Conducting routine inspections to identify potential issues with electrical systems
* Performing maintenance operations to ensure the smooth functioning of electrical equipment
* Overseeing subcontractors who may be working on maintenance projects
* Carrying out minor repairs and replacements as required
Additionally, Electricians are responsible for:
* Effective handling of service enquiries generated by the help desk
* Supporting and improving service delivery by utilising site systems and equipment efficiently
* Drafting method statements and risk analyses as needed
* Maintaining and assessing stock levels and spare parts requirements through audits and prompt part purchase
* Assessing personal risks associated with maintenance and repair tasks
* Completing service reports and entering data into the CMMS system
* Ensuring that all tasks are completed safely and in compliance with client procedures
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will require:
* A recognised electrical trade certification (equivalent to National Craft Certificate – Junior & Senior Trades)
* A solid understanding of electrical regulations and standards, including systems such as fire alarms, access control, building management systems (BMS), HVAC, and refrigeration
* Broad knowledge of general building maintenance, with a focus on mechanical systems
* Proven experience working with electrical supply and distribution systems, including low, medium, and high voltage
* Formal training in low and high voltage systems, ideally to a City & Guilds or equivalent standard
* Practical experience in LV and HV switching operations is highly desirable
* Familiarity with thermographic inspection techniques
* Competence in portable appliance testing (PAT)
* Training in permit-to-work systems and safety protocols
