Are you an experienced substation design engineer looking for your next challenge? Join our Networks Stations Design team and play a pivotal role in delivering cutting‑edge electricity transmission and distribution projects.
We’re seeking a Senior Substation Design Engineer with proven expertise in primary and secondary design and a strong background in GIS substations. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of complex, high‑value projects and contribute to the development of modern, reliable power infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of substation design projects, ensuring all design, safety, quality, and programme requirements are met.
Act as the Lead Engineer on multiple projects, coordinating technical inputs across multidisciplinary teams.
Provide technical oversight and design review for EPC and Design & Build projects.
Offer expert technical support and mentorship to colleagues across the design team.
Manage and coordinate the technical, commercial, and financial aspects of each project, engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
Serve as Project Supervisor Design Stage (PSDP), ensuring compliance with all safety legislation and design standards.
Prepare and review design risk assessments and H&S plans for both design and construction teams.
Maintain a strong focus on project delivery, quality, and safety, even within tight timelines.
What We’re Looking For
Degree (Level 8) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
7+ years’ experience in GIS substation design, including both transmission and distribution networks.
Comprehensive knowledge of substation project lifecycles — from tendering and scoping through design, costing, construction, and commissioning.
Proven experience delivering or reviewing designs on EPC or Design & Build projects.
Strong project management and contract management capabilities.
Technical expertise in control and protection systems, auxiliary power systems (AC/DC), power transformers, and/or reactors.
Full driver’s licence and access to transport.
