Qualifications and Criteria
Registered in the General Division of the Live Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland
Minimum 3 years post‑registration experience, ideally including day ward, acute surgical and medical care
Clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to discharge the functions of the role properly
Excellent interpersonal, motivational and communication skills
Evidence of continuing learning and professional development
Management or Leadership training
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership: Provide visible, supportive leadership to nursing and healthcare staff within the day ward; ensure evidence-based, high-quality nursing care aligned with NMBI standards; oversee assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care; support safe admission, treatment, and discharge processes to maintain optimal patient flow; promote a culture of open, respectful communication.
Operational Management: Coordinate daily staffing, skill mix, and allocation; support CNM2 and Operations Manager; monitor activity levels and patient flow; liaise with multidisciplinary teams; ensure compliance with infection prevention and control; maintain accurate documentation; manage complaints promptly.
Staff Support & Management: Supervise, mentor, and support nursing staff; work with Clinical Nurse Facilitators on staff development and competency progression; promote a positive, respectful team culture.
Information Technology & Data: Use EHR Meditech for clinical and administrative support; participate in training and quality improvement initiatives; ensure adherence to hospital policies and HIQA & JCI standards.
Risk Management: Identify potential safety issues and mitigate them; promote continuous improvement aligned with HIQA and hospital standards.
Health & Safety: Comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act and relevant hospital procedures; protect health and safety at work.
Hygiene / Infection Prevention and Control: Monitor practices; conduct audits; implement corrective actions; maintain a culture of privacy and confidentiality.
Data Management: Ensure compliance with Data Protection Act 2018 and relevant GDPR provisions.
Health & Safety: All employees must comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 and relevant hospital policies.
