Patrick Bergin & Son has a vacancy for an HGV CAT C+E Driver to join our Kilkenny base, at 6 & 7 Purcellsinch Business Park, Kilkenny, Ireland.

Primary Purpose of the Role: To load, transport and deliver dry goods in a prompt, professional and safe manner in accordance with Company and legal standards. To ensure truck and maintenance schedules/paperwork are completed accurately and on time.

Responsibilities
Plan routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules and legal driving limits.
Comply with road traffic laws and EU tachograph regulations (driving/rest time).
Load handling: ensure cargo is correctly loaded, secured and balanced; inspect loads for damage or compliance with regulations; assist in loading/unloading when required.
Maintain accurate delivery logs, bills of lading, CMR documents; use tachograph systems to record driving time, breaks and rest periods; complete daily vehicle inspection reports; ensure customs documentation is correct for cross‑border transport.
Conduct daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections; report mechanical issues promptly; keep vehicle clean, road‑worthy and legally compliant (lights, brakes, tyres).
Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers and warehouse personnel; represent the company professionally; handle delivery paperwork, signatures and confirm receipt with clients.
Follow EU and national regulations on driving hours, rest periods, HGV licensing, insurance and health & safety; adhere to company policies on conduct, security and cargo confidentiality.
Navigate using GPS, maps or route planning tools; manage time to meet tight schedules; be prepared for extended periods away from home.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
Minimum 2 years driving experience
Level 4 qualification (including Leaving Certificate or variant)
Specialising in HGV driving
Desirable
Administration, interpersonal and manual skills
Decision making, priority planning, problem solving and time management competencies
Full C1/C1E driving licence
English B2‑Upper intermediate proficiency
