Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Site Director, the Head of Operations, Membrane & Chromatography Media Operations is fully responsible for leading operations activities within one of the site's key manufacturing areas.
This role is a key member of the senior leadership team responsible for developing and implementing overall strategic direction for the site.
The Head of Operations, Membrane & Chromatography Media Operations is accountable for on-time delivery of quality products to our customers in a cost-efficient and safe way through the development and execution of operating plans within our Cork manufacturing plant across multiple areas and teams including a high-volume process lines and Media production.
The successful manager will lead the Membrane and Media Operations in the delivery of our high-quality products to Merck customers around the globe.
Working in close partnership with the Plant Manager and site leadership, the Operations Manager will work to ensure process rigor and a continuous improvement mindset within their areas of responsibility.
Position Responsibilities:
Develop and ensure adherence to the Merck production systems and standard work while leveraging internal tools to maintain and improve the performance and productivity across related teams.
Evaluate employee performance with MyImpact in mind providing day-to-day coaching, guidance and recognition while also documenting performance including conducting annual performance appraisals.
Lead teams in the practice of daily management to track and ensure the achievement of Operations goals in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost & Cash, People and Projects.
Serve as the production owner and interface for business Value Chans
Accountable for the formulation and implementation of effective BU production plans and strategies, based on BU and customer needs and production\engineering capacity.
Ensure the proper coordination of people and equipment to best meet BU business goals and priorities, approving master schedules and production plans, developing the business case for capital expenditure.
Lead continuous improvement and process excellence initiatives to deliver on the business needs and increase customer satisfaction.
Ensure that long-range planning of production schedules is established, assure department commitment to achieve the plan and co-ordinate production activities to ensure proper execution of the plan.
Manage production activities to ensure schedules and budgetary commitments are met.
Where necessary take action or establish procedures of corrective action.
Overall responsibility for the implementation of Quality Systems in the respective area
Co-ordinate services and technical support in determining appropriate product and process improvement programmes to maintain high quality standards.
Responsible for the selection, training, counselling and evaluation of direct reports and, through them, other employees within the department.
Ensure that company policies are implemented and the development of appropriate local policies governing personnel and production activities.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety legislation & adherence to procedures for area of responsibility.
Authorise expenditures on capital equipment and replacement parts within company policy and guide-lines.
Engage subordinate staff in the establishment of agreed budgeted labour costs and administers company policy.
Candidate's Profile
Education
Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Science, Engineering, or related/equivalent field.
Master's degree in the mentioned fields would be an advantage.
Work Experience
Minimum 5-10 years experience within Plant Management, Supply Chain, Operations or relevant strategic function.
Track record in progressive leadership roles leading multifunctional teams.
Demonstrated change management; ability to define, establish, and complete a strategic and cultural vision by inspiring change across multifunctional teams and the broader organisation
Job specific Competencies
Demonstrated ability to lead attainment of bold objectives for EHS, Quality, Service and Cost.
Experienced knowledge and application in production management, lean manufacturing, and materials control.
Experienced in lean manufacturing methodologies in driving value stream improvement.
Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, financial competence, ability to make decisions in a constantly evolving environment.
Strong communication and leadership skills and experience in diverse cultural backgrounds.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, aim to succeed, motivator of people.
Leads adoption of new processes, tools, and systems through focused adherence to standardized approaches.
Proven skills in structured problem solving
Strong customer (internal and external) and supplier facing presentation abilities.
