OpportunityAs aConsultant in Anaesthsiologyin the HSE you'll be a senior specialist member of this department at this university hospital. As the appointed Consultant, your duties will involve:Deliveringsafe, high-quality anaesthetic care for both elective and emergency surgeries, including:Pre-operative assessmentIntra-operative managementPost-operative careSupervise and mentor junior doctors, nurses, and anaesthesia techniciansParticipate in on-call rota, responding to emergency casesCollaborate closely with surgical teams and other departmentsContribute to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiativesEngage in professional development, research, and teaching activitiesThe region covers one third of the land mass of Ireland, it provides health care to a population of 830,000, employs over 20,000 staffThis role is not asubstantive post but will be an initial short-term contract of 12 months, to potentially be extendedDepartment focus:Offers comprehensive perioperative care: pre-op assessment, intra-op management (general/regional anaesthesia), post-op care, ICU, pain medicine, and resuscitation .Strong focus on regional anaesthesia, with dedicated block bay facilities performing ~2,000 nerve blocks per yearIntegral role in teaching, serving medical students, interns, trainees, and nurses (ICU, peri-op, emergency care)Rich schedule of educational and clinical governance activities: weekly lectures, morbidity & mortality reviews, ICU meetings, research forums, journal clubsRecognised as a regional training centre for both basic and specialist registrar programmes, under Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland accreditationWhat's on offer for you?Basic Salary scale between €231,215- €277,736in accordance with the HSE 2023 Consultant contractFull comprehensiverelocation package on offer30 days annual leave37 hour a week contract10 public holidaysContinuous Medical Education leaveEssential CriteriaRegistration on the Irish Medical Council’s Specialist Division in AnaesthesiologyCompletion of Specialist Training (CCT or equivalent) in AnaesthesiologyExcellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.Experience in regional anesthesia, pain management, or intensive care is advantageousAdditionalbenefits include:Continuous professional developmentFlexible scheduling to support work-life balanceSupportive and collaborative work environmentsAccess to cutting-edge medical technologies and techniquesLocation in detail: GalwayFom the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way—Galway, a charming city on Ireland’s rugged west coast.
