Automation Controls System Engineering – Hiring Manager: Colm Slattery
Business Unit: Sustainable Automation → Automation Controls Sub‑Strategy
Overview
The Sustainable Automation BU is enabling the factory of the future by driving innovation in sensing and control automation. As part of this mission, the Automation Controls sub‑strategy focuses on advancing technologies for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and next‑generation industrial control architectures. Customers such as Siemens, Rockwell, Honeywell, and Mitsubishi increasingly rely on ADI not only for components but for system‑level hardware, software, and architectural innovation.
Key Responsibilities

Support marketing and business development activities at major industrial automation customers.
Collaborate with sales to grow the opportunity pipeline, contribute to technical proposals, and help maximize ADI content in customer systems.
Assist in defining new product concepts and system‑level technology needs that strengthen ADI’s value proposition.
Engage with customers and ecosystem partners to support technical discussions and build strong relationships.
Contribute to the development of industry‑leading system‑level solutions for control automation applications.
Perform system analysis, including competitive benchmarking and technology assessments, to identify value propositions and gaps in current hardware/software offerings.
Develop system‑level technical collateral, demos, and training material to support customer engagements and internal enablement.
Identify system and ecosystem pain points that impact customer performance or commercial outcomes.
Develop digital‑twin models of ADI subsystem hardware to support system analysis, performance prediction, and customer demonstrations.
Build or refine AI‑based models that assist with tasks such as anomaly detection, system optimization, or automated benchmarking.
Use AI tools to accelerate engineering workflows (e.g., data analysis, documentation generation, simulation support, competitive analysis).
Support the creation of automated or semi‑automated evaluation frameworks using AI/ML techniques.
Explore opportunities to integrate digital‑twin and AI models into customer‑facing collateral, demos, or internal productivity tools.
Stay current with emerging AI‑assisted engineering practices and help introduce them into the team’s daily work.

Qualifications
Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
3–5 years of relevant industrial or system‑level engineering experience.
Strong understanding of hardware and/or software fundamentals.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Interest in applying AI tools and digital‑twin methodologies to engineering workflows.

Preferred:

Experience in industrial automation, PLCs, DCS, or control systems.
Exposure to system‑level architecture, benchmarking, or competitive analysis.
Familiarity with AI/ML tools, simulation environments, or digital‑twin frameworks.
Strong business awareness and willingness to collaborate across marketing, sales, and engineering.

Additional Information

Some travel expected.
This role offers strong opportunities for growth into deeper system architecture, modeling, and cross‑functional leadership.
