We are seeking an Automation Engineer (Batch Automation) to support the integration of a new filling line into our existing manufacturing automation system. The role will focus on controls integration, PLC programming, and process control implementation, ensuring seamless connectivity between the new equipment, multiple tank clusters, and the CIP system. Mechanical installation will be handled by a third-party contractor, allowing this role to concentrate on automation and system integration.
The site operates a FactoryTalk Batch system aligned with ISA-88 standards. The successful candidate will work within established control modules, batch structures, and site automation standards to deliver a reliable, fully integrated solution.
This position involves close collaboration with Automation, Systems, and Machine Control teams to ensure the new line is fully validated, documented, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
Integrate new process equipment into the existing plant automation architecture.
Develop and maintain PLC logic to manage transfers, routing, pumping, and process control operations.
Adhere to established site standards, including: Control and macro modules, Naming conventions, Alarm management, Control philosophies.
Develop and adjust phase logic to support batch operations within FactoryTalk Batch.
Collaborate with the Systems/Batch team to integrate equipment with batch models and recipes.
Implement process control strategies for: Tank-to-tank transfers, CIP routing and operations, Pump and valve sequencing, Process interlocks and safety logic, Alarm handling and event notifications.
Design interface and handshake logic with OEM filling machine control systems.
Access and modify multiple PLC systems across production areas.
Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including: Functional descriptions, Control narratives, Test protocols, Troubleshooting guides.
Collaborate with HMI/visualization teams to support screen development and testing.
Participate in validation activities in accordance with site procedures.
Ensure all changes comply with change control processes and documentation standards.
Required Experience
Strong PLC programming skills (Allen-Bradley preferred).
Experience in batch or process manufacturing environments essential.
Proficiency with FactoryTalk Batch or similar batch control systems.
Solid understanding of ISA-88 batch control principles.
Proven experience integrating new equipment into existing control architectures.
Familiarity with pumps, valves, manifolds, and process instrumentation.
Experience managing multiple PLC systems in live production environments.
Hands‑on experience supporting commissioning and start‑up operations.
Ability to produce high‑quality technical documentation.
Desirable Experience
Background in beverage, food, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Experience with CIP systems, tank farms, and transfer operations.
Familiarity with Rockwell ControlLogix / Studio 5000.
Experience working in regulated or validated environments.
Prior collaboration with third‑party OEM machine suppliers.
