Job Title
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Medical Microbiologist to join our team.
About the Role
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Medical Scientist in the Microbiology Department and be responsible for performing scientific procedures and associated work to the highest professional standard.
Main Responsibilities:
* Observe strict confidence when dealing with patient or hospital information.
* Perform scientific procedures and associated work to the highest professional standard as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.
* Participate in training and supervision of new and existing staff and students as required.
* Actively participate in CPD programmes and maintain up-to-date knowledge and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the post.
* Co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumables, reagents and processes and to participate in research projects.
* In co-operation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist/designated senior staff, ensure appropriate compliance with International and National Guidelines and Standards for the provision of Microbiology laboratory services.
* Actively participate in maintaining and developing the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 15189, including active participation in internal and external quality assurance.
* Actively participate in the accreditation process in the department, including the Joint Review process.
* Participate in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and to assist and co-operate with the Laboratory Management team in developing procedures to be followed in preventing and managing accidents occurring in the work area.
* Co-operate with and promote excellent hygiene standards in the workplace.
* Perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to him/her by an officer designated by the Board in consultation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates must have statutory registration, professional qualifications, experience, etc. Mandatory requirements include being registered on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU or proof of application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU. Candidates must also provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register before a contract of employment can be issued.
Key Qualifications:
* Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Annual registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.
* Fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office.
* Good character.
Additional Requirements:
Candidates must be able to undertake regular and efficient service and be in a state of health indicating a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Students graduating in May or June 2025 are encouraged to apply.
