Primary Purpose
The Instructional Specialist improves teaching and learning across the district by working directly with campus instructional staff to strengthen planning, instruction, and assessment aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
This role focuses on building instructional capacity through job-embedded coaching, collaborative planning, assessment development, and high-quality professional learning.
Instructional Specialists spend the majority of their time on campuses providing job-embedded support to teachers and leaders.
Major Responsibilities and Duties

Provide instructional coaching to teachers through planning support, classroom observation, feedback, modeling, co-teaching, and demonstration lessons.

Support new, developing, and struggling teachers to improve instructional practice and student learning.
?
Collaborate with campus and district leaders using a coach-the-coach model to strengthen instructional leadership.

Collaborate with teams of teachers to develop, review, and refine district common assessments aligned to TEKS and appropriate levels of rigor.

Support lesson internalization and standards-based planning, including unpacking standards, identifying success criteria, and planning aligned instruction.
?
Design and facilitate professional learning for educators focused on curriculum, content standards, and research-based instructional practices.

Support the effective use of district curriculum resources and instructional materials.
Analyze student performance data with teachers and leaders to inform instructional decisions and monitor progress.

Facilitate collaborative instructional conversations focused on continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education / Certification
Bachelor's Degree
Master's Degree preferred
Knowledge & Skills
Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and assessment
Understanding of TEKS and standards-based instruction
Ability to design and facilitate effective adult professional learning
Ability to analyze and apply student data
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
Experience
Three years' experience as a classroom teacher
Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Policy, Reports, and Law
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
