Role Overview
The Plant Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for ensuring full legal and regulatory compliance and embedding strong EHS standards across plant operations. Acting as a key advisor to site leadership, this role drives a strong EHS culture, supports safe and reliable operations, and champions continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Delivery & Risk Management
* Integrate EHS standards into daily operations to support safe, compliant, Zero-Harm performance.
* Conduct audits, inspections, and assessments to maintain standards and identify improvements.
* Lead incident and environmental event investigations, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
* Provide leadership to Safety & Sustainability teams to deliver site objectives.
* Support change control and ensure EHS requirements are built into equipment, processes, and new technologies.
EHS Strategy, Compliance & Governance
* Develop and maintain the site EHS strategy aligned with global KPIs.
* Ensure full compliance with all EHS legislation and regulatory requirements.
* Monitor legislative changes and update site policies and the Plant Safety Statement.
* Maintain accurate EHS records, metrics, and environmental monitoring data.
* Lead efforts to achieve and maintain EHS accreditations.
Culture, Capability & Training
* Foster a highly engaged EHS culture across the plant.
* Design and deliver EHS training to build competence and awareness.
* Coach teams to embed behavioural safety and environmental responsibility.
* Lead the Plant Safety Teams and Emergency Response Team (ERT).
* Support occupational health and wellness activities in partnership with medical and HR teams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
* Advise site leadership on all EHS matters.
* Build strong relationships with Corporate Safety/Environmental teams and regulatory bodies (HSA, EPA).
* Ensure EHS considerations are incorporated into all plant projects.
* Communicate EHS performance, insights, and priorities across the organisation.
Team Leadership
* Lead and develop the EHS team with clear objectives and accountability.
* Provide coaching and talent development to build technical and leadership capability.
* Foster an engaged, high-performing team culture.
Educational Requirements
* Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
* NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA qualifications are advantageous.
Relevant Experience
* 10+ years' EHS experience in a highly regulated manufacturing or industrial environment.
* Proven track record of delivering sustainable safety and environmental improvements.
* Strong background in behavioural safety programmes and EHS management systems.
* Extensive experience with audits, investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analysis.
