We have offices in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Galway and Glasgow and Macclesfield in the UK.We currently have an exciting "high profile" career opportunity for an experienced Resident Engineer to work in a small team of Resident Engineers in the supervision of the Pier Improvements Design and Build project on the island of Inis Oírr. The position is for an initial 24-month contract commencing in early 2026. There is also the potential for an extension to the initial contract in a part time capacity during the 12-month defects period.The successful candidate will be joining a national and international leader in the delivery of sustainable multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy solutions in the marine environment.The following team set up can be expected for the majority of the duration of the project:The RE appointment is from beginning of January 2026.Until March 2026, office facilities will be provided in Limerick, with optional part-time working from home, and periodic inspections on the island and at casting yards and quarries in Co Galway and perhaps Co Offaly, under rota.From March 2026 when siteworks begin in earnest on the island, fulltime accommodation and office facilities will thereafter be provided on the island, with day-travel to mainland production sites during 2026 as necessary, under rota.About The RoleThe key duties of the role shall include, but not be limited to:Assist the Senior Resident Engineer in liaising with the employer's representative, contractor, client and all major stakeholdersOrganise adequate supervision at all times during construction works on the siteReview and assess of Contractor claims and writing reports on sameReview and report on Contractor payment applications against work completedMonitoring progress on site relative to Construction programme.Ensure compliance with the conditions as set out in the relevant licenses for the worksAssessment of all relevant Contractor submissions including method statementsAssessment of all relevant contractor submittals, including method statements, for compliance with the works Requirements, and liaison with the Employers RepresentativeSupervision of the works, keeping records, measuring, managing correspondence, and contractual documentationEnsure works are carried out in accordance with Contract Specification and Design drawingsChecking that all Traffic Management Plans and phasing of Construction Works, are as agreed with client and relevant stake holders in accordance with Chapter 8 of the current Traffic Signs Manual, and in particular that vehicular and pedestrian movements are accommodated safely through the works and on the approaches to the worksA full list of all responsibilities is available on request.A typical working week will be 45 hours with some flexibility required in line with the nature of the works.Key Skills/AttributesMandatory:Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (minimum Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent).At least 10 years' postgraduate experience in civil engineering works, with a minimum of 5 years' site-based experience in the construction of bridge, marine or civil works.Experience in the role of resident engineer (or equivalent) on civil engineering works.Working knowledge of the public works forms of contract.Experience in accurate record keeping.Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation.Good organisational skills.Motivated individual with a strong work ethic.Excellent written and oral communication skills.fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English.Desirable:Experience of marine construction works.Proficient in spoken Gaeilge to a level which will enable oral communication with island residents in Gaeilge on non-technical matters relating to the project and accommodation works.Have successfully completed a Safe Pass course and be in possession of Safe Pass registration card prior to commencement of the appointment.What We Offer YouA comprehensive remuneration package is on offer for the successful candidate which includes a competitive salary in line with experience.Please submit your CV by email to and quote Resident Engineer in the heading.
