Temporary Public Laboratory Scientist (RPAL), 3039 Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesProfessional 1.Perform chemical analysis of samples of food, cosmetics, water, drugs, sewage, or articles of miscellaneous nature.
2.Use instrumental, classical, and molecular biological techniques for chemical analysis.
3.Participate in method development, method validation, and system suitability testing as appropriate.
4.Actively participate in required training consistent with the position.
Quality &Audit 5.Comply with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and laboratory documented policies and procedures.
6.Perform calibration and qualification of equipment and instrumentation as delegated.
7.Participate in internal and external audits, including method demonstrations as required by ISO/IEC 17025.
8.Report suspected non-conforming work or opportunities for improvement or preventative actions to their supervisor.
9.Investigate non-conforming work as delegated.
General 10.Work independently and as part of a team.
11.Attend daily at the Public Analysts Laboratory at times determined by the Chief Officer.
12.Perform any other duties appropriate to the role as assigned by the Public Analyst.
Health &Safety 13.Comply with the Laboratory Safety Statement at all times.
14.Participate in risk assessments, identify risks, and propose/implement appropriate remedial measures.
15.Report incidents and near misses.
16.Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate.
17.Support, promote, and actively participate in sustainable energy, water, and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon, and efficient health service.
Education &Training 18.Participate in mandatory training programmes.
19.Take responsibility for continuing professional development.
20.Co-operate fully with the implementation of new procedures, technologies, and IT systems.
Administrative 21.Be familiar with and implement all documented procedures and policies.
22.Make effective use of information technology.
23.Promote a culture that values diversity and respect in the workplace.
RiskManagement,InfectionControl,HygieneServices,andHealth &Safety 24.Attend training in Continuous Quality Improvement, Safety Statement, Health & Safety Policies, and Fire Procedures.
25.Cooperate with management and attend health and safety training.
26.Report any safety shortcomings or equipment defects.
27.Contribute to the identification and management of risks.
Eligibility CriteriaQualificationsand/orExperience Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience i) Hold a minimum of a Level 7 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), with Chemistry, Food Chemistry, or Biochemistry as a major subject, or an equivalent qualification.
ii) Hold an N.C.E.A.
Diploma in Science (Chemistry, Biology, or Microbiology option) or equivalent qualification.
b) Candidates must demonstrate the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties.
Age Age restriction applies only to candidates not classified as new entrants (under the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004).
Candidates must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the application closes.
Health Candidates must be capable of undertaking the duties of the post and be in a state of health that would ensure regular and efficient service.
Character Candidates must be of good character.
Post-SpecificRequirements Demonstrate experience in the chemical analysis of food, waters/effluents, pharmaceuticals, or cosmetics in a Public Analysts Laboratory or equivalent.
CompetencyCriteriaProfessionalKnowledge Demonstrate technical knowledge of chemical, microbiological, or molecular biological analyses.
Knowledge of modern instrumental techniques and classical methods of chemical, microbiological, or molecular biological analyses.
Strong knowledge of fundamental Chemistry, Microbiology, or Molecular Biology.
Demonstrate professional knowledge to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role.
Knowledge of Health, Safety & Welfare standards and other relevant areas.
Planning &Organising Demonstrate effective planning and organisational skills.
Ability to manage oneself in a busy working environment.
