Founded in 2001 and part of the Irish Times Group.The RoleThe role will involve guiding, leading and mentoring the development team in building new products and maintaining the current feature set within the ecosystem. Working closely with and reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, the candidate is responsible for ensuring the smooth and timely delivery of software projects while ensuring what is deployed is performant, stable and developed to a high standard. The candidate would be expected to take a very hands-on approach and consider themselves as a part development resource, working closely with the Frontend team to ensure a collaborative approach across functions.Key Responsibilities:Manage:Leading and managing a team consisting of back-end developersManage/facilitate the daily stand-ups, leading fortnightly sprint planning workshops, and removing blockers for team members in a timely fashionWorking both on your own initiative and within a dynamic team structureCommunicate effectively with team members, managers, and business users alikeDevelop:Developing code across the full stack to a high standard and leading by example across the team - enforcing coding standardsWorking closely with the Head of Software Engineering to architect new solutions that will support the business needs both now and into the futureLearning innovative technologies and adapting to changing design frameworks and principlesDeliver:Delivering software fixes, features and projects to a high standard and in a timely mannerSplitting out complex projects into deliverable tasks and accurately estimating and sizing projects to facilitate a smooth deliverySupporting short release cycles, continuous deployment, and DevOps processesProject management - working closely with all key stakeholders to ensure projects are running on time, risks are communicated early, and scope creep is managed effectively.Skills & Experience:5+ years software development experiencePrevious experience leading & managing software development teamsStrong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication abilitiesExperience developing C# .NET within a microservices architectureExperience with SQLExperience delivering software that has been unit and integration testedExperience with performance tuning applicationsExperience working in an Agile development environmentExperience with large scale, high traffic volume websitesExperience of mentoring staff and conducting code reviewsExperience using cloud platforms such as Azure or AWSElastic search and Redis experience are a plus is part of The Irish Times Group.
