About the Role
The National Genetics and Genomics Office (NGGO) is responsible for implementing the National Strategy for Accelerating Genetic and Genomic Medicine in Ireland (Genomics Strategy). A Five-Year Plan (2025-2029) focuses on:
1. Coordinating a national approach to genetics and genomics
2. Ensuring Patient and Public involvement and partnerships
3. Building the genetics and genomics workforce for the future
4. Enhancing genetics and genomics clinical services
5. Strengthening infrastructure to drive advances in genetics and genomics
The National Bioinformatics Director will provide leadership and expertise in bioinformatics, working with key stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of the strategy. The role involves being part of the HSE’s National Genetics and Genomics Office leadership team.

Job Requirements
1. Qualifications and Experience
o PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or Genomics
o At least 7 years of post-qualification full-time experience in laboratory/clinical bioinformatics
o At least 5 years of senior management experience in a clinical diagnostic laboratory or clinical bioinformatics
o Strategic leadership experience in genetic and genomic bioinformatics services, including national projects
o Proven ability to manage significant change programs within complex organizations
o Experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and service delivery partners
o Published work in peer-reviewed publications
o Knowledge and ability to perform the duties of the office to a high standard
2. Health
o Candidate must be fully competent and capable of performing the duties of the role, with good health to render regular and efficient service
3. Character
o Must be of good character
