Clinical To participate in the development of, and undertake, all duties and functions pertinent to the Consultants areaofcompetence,assetoutwithinthe Clinical Directorate Service Planandinlinewithpoliciesasspecified by the Employer and NCCP Guidelines.
To be responsibleforthecare and treatment and reviewofall patients underhis/hercharge andtomaintain clinical autonomy relating to themanagement and care of individual patients.
inline with the following Work Schedule: 2 Hoursperweek-Inpatientcareandwardrounds 12 Hours per week- Theatre Activity 6hoursperweek-Diagnostic/Treatment Activity 9 hours per week- Out patient clinics 4hoursperweek-Caseconferenceactivity To collaborate and work closely with the patient, his/her family, the multidisciplinary team, managerial/ administrativestaffandexternalagenciestofacilitatedischargeplanning,continuityofcareandspecificcare requirements Toprovide,asappropriate,consultationinthe Consultantsareaofdesignatedexpertiseinrespectofpatients of other Consultants at their request.
To alternate with the other consultants in the department and to act for them as required during short-term absences, including weekend and off-duty leave.
To facilitate co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across health care settings, strengthen the interface betweendifferentlocationsofcareanddeveloptheconceptofcollaborativecareplanninginconjunctionwith other professionals.
Togetherwithcolleagueswhohavesimilarappointmentsin General Surgery, initiatealeadershiproleinshaping hospital policy with regard to the management and treatment of patients, best practice and accreditation.
To supervise and be responsible for diagnosis, treatment and care provided by non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHDs) treating patients under the Consultants care To support the implementation of standards which provide safe quality care, timely diagnosis and focused treatment in line with prescribed treatment protocols and international best practice.
Education Contribute to training and supervision ofin the Department Supervisionofauditsandresearchcarriedoutby Specialist Registrars/Registrars Participationineducationsessionsfor NCHDs,nurses,alliedhealthprofessionalsandundergraduatestudents Participation in ongoing CPD programs Researchandaudit Performance of appropriate research in breast cancer and high-risk gene carriers,andincollaborationwithother researchers within the hospital SKILLSANDKNOWLEDGE Clinical Care: Todemonstratetheabilitytoprovidealevelofclinicalcarerequiredbythispostaccordingtothe standardsandrequirementssetbystatutoryandregulatorybodies,e.g.
RCSI, RCPI, Medical Council,etc.
Communication: Toillustrateahighlevelofverbalandnon-verbalskillsinordertoeffectivelycommunicatewith and relate to patients and / or parents / family, colleagues, hospital staff and management.
Administration & Management Skills: To demonstrate a satisfactory level of proficiency so as to enable the appointee to manage his/her staff and service and to be able to interact with and participate in hospital managementstructuresasrequired.
Furthermore,theappointeeshoulddemonstratetheabilitytolead,supervise and be responsible for the clinical work of his / her multi-professional team.
