Job Title: Clinical Nurse Manager 2 Department: Patrick Fitzgerald Unit Job Type: Permanent Hours: 37.5 per week (Full-Time) Blackrock Clinic is the leading and longest established private hospital and clinic in Ireland. The Patrick Fitzgerald Unit (PFU) is a 42-bedded medical/surgical unit located on the first floor. We have a very wide variety of specialities encompassing both medical and surgical patients. Medical - Respiratory, Cardiology Surgical - General, Urology, ENT, Vascular ROLE PURPOSE The Manager must practice within the Codes of Practice, Rules and Guidelines set out by NMBI and comply with the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic The primary function of the manager is to provide clinical, management and professional leadership to nursing and allied staff to ensure that nursing care is delivered to a high standard. Effectively manage the nursing resource. Contribute to the on-going implementation of the nursing strategy at Blackrock clinic in close liaison with Matron & ADONs QUALIFICATIONS Registered in the general division of NMBI Have at least five years post registration experience of which, two must be recent experience an acute setting An appropriate qualification or management experience relevant to the post, is desirable Evidence of personal professional development. ESSENTIAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES Organisational and professional knowledge. Communication and influencing skills Planning and organisation Promotion of evidence based decision making Team leadership KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Professional Providing a high level of professional and clinical leadership. Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using evidence based best practice approach to ensure clinical effectiveness and efficiency. Monitor complaints and work with quality and risk manager. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient satisfaction. Monitor the quality-of-service delivery and provide professional advice and guidance. Ensure all documentation is complete and appropriate information is given to patients. Evaluate and develop, lead and manage the implementation of best practice policy and procedures. 2.Management Provide a visible presence within the clinical area and be responsible for leading the delivery of high quality care. Exercise authority in the running of the assigned area(s) Participate in the recruitment and selection of appropriate personnel for the department. Monitor productivity to facilitate the financial planning for nursing and the support services. Ensure staff attend all mandatory training - CPR, Manual handling, Fire etc. Promote and nurture a high level of staff morale, thereby promoting team spirit and job satisfaction among all staff. Encourage evidence based practice, using a car planning approach to nursing care Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment/care planning and in the provision of support and advice. Assist in staff leadership and motivation, which is conducive to good staff relations and work performance Contribute to the development and maintenance of nursing standards, protocols and guidelines consistent with the highest standards of patient care. Provide the necessary co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff in designated area(s) of responsibility, ensuring that skill mix takes account of fluctuating workloads and ensuring maximisation of available resources. Collaborate with hospital personnel and other healthcare providers in planning care and making appropriate referrals. Oversee high standard of record keeping by staff within the unit Support and interpret clinical policies and procedures. Ensure all relevant information is passed to staff within the unit. Participate in regular unit meetings and team briefings with the staff Actively support the infection control practice within the hospital. Maintain effective communication networks within the unit and departments throughout the hospital. Serve on committees within the hospital as appropriate. Ensure compliance with the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control. Ensure that patient care equipment is maintained to an appropriate standard Contribute to quality assurance by assisting in data collection as required 3.Education and Self Development Provide for the professional growth and development of nursing staff by: Assessing and identifying training and development needs for nursing staff within the unit Identifying teaching and learning opportunities Setting objectives for learning in conjunction with the CNS Contributing to and facilitating in the development of training programmes where appropriate. Contributing in clinical audit as required Facilitating student nurse placement/ adaption staff/ work experience others and direct the CNS to ensure that their nurse educational requirements are met. Assuming responsibility for identifying own educational needs and upgrade deficient areas through independent study, seminar attendance or requesting staff development programmes.
