Building Automation Application Engineer

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Application Engineer to join our CMS Controls-OH team in Cleveland or Columbus, OH. This role involves designing, developing, overseeing installation, and implementing Building Automation Systems (BAS) for new and retrofit projects. The engineer will work closely with senior staff, providing technical support, assisting with installation, and ensuring project success. A strong eagerness to learn, basic HVAC and controls knowledge, and problem-solving skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation and Wiring
o Perform installations according to prints with minimal supervision.
o Pull power and control wiring safely and accurately.
o Install bridal rings and communication wiring with proper cable management.
o Terminate controllers such as VAV, UV, and FC units.
o Terminate all controller types, including global controllers and network connections.
2. System Configuration and Checkout
o Download programs to controllers.
o Perform point-to-point checkout to verify installation and program functionality.
o Assist in troubleshooting technical issues under supervision.
3. System Design and Documentation Support
o Interpret design drawings and specifications.
o Support creation of submittal packages and control diagrams.
o Assist in developing sequences of operation, valve and damper schedules.
o Prepare material requisitions and RFIs.
o Help finalize as-built documentation.
4. Project Collaboration and Communication
o Work with project teams to ensure timely completion.
o Attend meetings and communicate effectively with team members.
5. Learning and Development
o Participate in training to enhance knowledge of BAS, industry standards, and tools.
o Develop expertise in HVAC controls, DDC programming, and protocols like BACnet and Modbus.
o Show willingness to learn new technologies and best practices.
Basic Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED.
* Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
* Experience with installation, wiring, and terminating controllers.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
* Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate’s or Bachelor’s in related fields.
* 1+ years in HVAC controls or similar.
* Basic N4 Niagara certification, Distech controls training.
* Experience with CAD software and networking principles.
* Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LON protocols.
* OSHA 10 certification.
Compensation
* $30.00 - $50.00 per hour, based on experience.
