We are pleased to invite applications for the position of Practical Gardening Coordinator. Reporting to the Retail Lead Buyer, this role involves being part of the Buying Team at our Lombardstown HQ, with responsibilities including visiting suppliers, stores, trade shows, and meetings. The ideal candidate will be proactive, energetic, committed, professional, discreet, and detail-oriented, reporting directly to the Retail Buyer. The main goal is to contribute to growth, meet budgets, and implement key initiatives for the Practical Gardening category.
Responsibilities
Customer Focus: (We Focus on our Customers)
- Coordinate and manage the promotional calendar (e.g., Plant of the Month, multi-buys).
- Support planning and implementation of Seeds and Bulb sub-group for key selling periods.
- Develop a range of plants and shrubs to boost sales and profitability during the Autumn period.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of core and seasonal products.
- Manage the ecommerce offering of plants and shrubs, including bedding plants and Christmas ranges, ensuring accurate data and images.
Driving for Results: (We are Honest & Accountable)
- Expand sales and variety opportunities from Dutch, UK, and other EU growers, especially for Autumn/Winter, Christmas, and when Irish product is short.
- Coordinate and manage bedding plant requirements for stores across the full 2025 season.
- Maximize supplier support for store write-offs.
- Review and track sales, margin, and stock performance of product groups.

- Ensure effective communication with stores, suppliers, buying, and other departments like Marketing, Accounts Payable, and Finance.
- Participate in weekly performance reviews and contribute to the Garden Horticulture team with updates and content.
- Liaise with Marketing on promotions, pricing, and product images.

- Ensure high-quality products are available to customers, involving regular quality reviews and supplier visits.
- Participate actively in procurement of garden accessories (pots, planters, etc.).
- Handle purchase orders, track all POs, and update product catalogues and website content regularly.

- Relevant experience and competence in a similar role.
- A relevant purchasing or business administration qualification.
- Extensive knowledge of garden plants, seasonal selling periods, and cross-departmental collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and business intelligence tools.
- Previous experience in Agriculture or Retail, with product knowledge in related categories.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.
- A customer-focused approach, with flexibility and the ability to influence at all levels.
