Overview of role:UPMC Whitfield Hospital is recruiting a Theatre Nurse on a full-time, permanent basis.
The role involves working as part of a team in the theatre department, providing high-quality, patient-centered care, and developing good relationships within a multidisciplinary team.
The nurse will assist in various specialties such as orthopaedic, general, ophthalmology, gynae, ENT, pain management, urology, and vascular, and may also support anaesthetic and PACU activities.
Developing specialist knowledge in nursing practice related to the clinical area is essential.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Clinical:Ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.Act as preceptor and mentor for students and new staff.Develop effective communication with the multidisciplinary team.Support the theatre manager and meet departmental responsibilities.Identify and discuss patient needs with the team and patients' families.Maintain standards in preassessment, communication, and professional registration.Adhere to policies on clinical risk, occupational health, safety, and departmental procedures.Quality & Audit:Participate in clinical audits and research, promoting evidence-based practice.Work with the Quality and Patient Safety team to meet accreditation standards.Health and Safety:Uphold hospital policies on fire safety, infection control, and radiation safety.Identify risks and report incidents according to procedures.Professional / Education:Develop skills to act as shift co-ordinator or team leader.Manage workload to meet patient care needs and ensure staff breaks.Develop IT skills, including knowledge of Isoft.Continuously assess the theatre environment for safety and report incidents.Engage in research-based nursing care and professional development.Undertake training for specific equipment or medication administration as required.Qualifications & Experience:Registered General Nurse with NMBI.At least 2 years' post-registration theatre experience.Evidence of ongoing CPD.Relevant theatre qualification is desirable.Equal Opportunity & Benefits:UPMC is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion.
