Role Title: Principal Medical Social Worker Job Reference Number: 002321 Closing Date: Sunday, 24th May 2026 Purpose of the Role: The Principal Social Worker will work alongside the existing Principal Social Worker in the management and leadership of the Social Work Department.
This position requires a strategic approach and effective management of change.
Continuous quality improvement and technological development should also be embraced to achieve the Social Work, SCOPe Directorate, and organisations goals.
Required: Candidates for appointment must: Be registered as a Medical Social Worker by the Health and Social Care Professionals Council at CORU.
And Have at least 5 years full-time (or an aggregate of 5 years full-time) post qualification experience.
And Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
And Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Social Worker Register maintained by the Health and Social Care Professionals Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
Annual Registration On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Health and Social Care Professionals Register maintained by the Health and Social Care Professionals Registration Board at CORU.
And Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to Human Resources, St Jamess Hospital by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
And Demonstrates leadership and management skills.
Organisational knowledge of the health services.
Broad knowledge of the social work services in the acute and community services.
Desired: MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Healthcare Management and/or Leadership.
