About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer with a minimum of 7 years post graduate experience.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering complex geotechnical design solutions across major infrastructure projects including highways, motorways, rail, active travel schemes, and drainage works.
This is a crucial position within our Geotechnical team, supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary design projects for both public and private sector clients across Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage geotechnical input on large-scale civil infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review geotechnical design calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior staff within the geotechnical team.
• Undertake ground investigation scoping, design, supervision, and interpretation.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and environmental engineering teams.
• Liaise with project stakeholders, clients, and contractors during design and construction phases.
• Ensure that all geotechnical design work is delivered to the highest quality and safety standards in accordance with Eurocodes and Irish/UK standards.
What do we need from you
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum 7 years’ post-graduate experience in geotechnical design engineering.
• Proven experience working on large civil infrastructure projects within a busy consultancy environment.
• Strong experience in the design and analysis of earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques.
• Proficient in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, WALLAP, Settle3, etc.).
• Chartership (CEng or approaching Chartered status) with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.
Desirable Skills
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams on TII, Irish Rail or NTA-led projects.
• Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design workflows.
• Project management and client-facing experience.
