We deliver design, fabrication, procurement, installation, maintenance, commissioning, and full turnkey engineering projects across a wide range of industries such as data centres, pharma and life science, from rural installations to large-scale international ports.Role OverviewButtimer Engineering is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior Project Planner to lead the planning, scheduling, and programme control of complex engineering projects across multiple sectors in and outside Ireland.The Senior Project Planner will play a key role in project governance, strategic planning, and decision support, working closely with project managers, engineering leads, commercial teams, and senior leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & LeadershipLead the development, maintenance, and control of integrated project programmes for large and complex multidisciplinary engineering projectsDefine and manage detailed work breakdown structures (WBS), logic, sequencing, and critical pathsIntegrate engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, approvals, and commissioning activities into cohesive schedulesProvide planning input during bid, tender, and proposal stages, including baseline programme development and strategyMentor and support junior planners and project team membersProgress Monitoring, Reporting & ControlsEstablish baseline schedules and performance measurement frameworksMonitor and analyse project performance against programme, identifying risks, delays, and opportunitiesProduce high-quality progress reports, dashboards, look-ahead schedules, and executive summariesDaily, bi-weekly and monthly look-ahead schedulesLead earned value analysis (EVM), forecasting, and schedule trend analysisProvide recovery and mitigation strategies where programme slippage occursRisk, Change & Scenario ManagementProactively identify programme risks, constraints, and dependenciesAssess the time impact of variations, change orders, and claimsLead schedule impact assessments and scenario planning exercisesSupport dispute resolution and claims preparation where requiredStakeholder & Team CoordinationAct as the primary planning interface between project teams, management, clients, and external stakeholdersFacilitate planning workshops, schedule reviews, and governance meetingsProvide expert planning advice to project managers and senior leadershipSupport consistent planning and reporting standards across projectsSystems & Continuous ImprovementDevelop, implement, and maintain planning standards, templates, and best practicesSupport the enhancement of project controls and planning systems within Buttimer EngineeringEnsure programme data integrity, traceability, and alignment with cost and risk controlsDrive continuous improvement in planning processes and toolsRequired Skills & Experience – EssentialExperience in a senior planning or project controls role within engineering, construction, or consultancy environmentsProven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary project programmesAdvanced proficiency in planning software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent)Strong understanding of project controls, risk management, and earned value principlesExcellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skillsDesirableExperience within an engineering consultancy or heavy engineering environmentExperience leading or mentoring planning teamsStrong understanding of contract formsExperience supporting major tenders and strategic project planningQualificationsDegree or diploma in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)Completion of a Planning CourseProfessional certification (e.g. APM, PMI, or equivalent) (desirable)Personal AttributesStrategic and structured thinker with strong leadership capabilityProactive, solutions-focused, and commercially awareHigh attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger pictureConfident working with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teamsAbility to manage multiple complex projectsWhat We OfferOpportunity to lead planning on challenging, high-profile engineering projectsCollaborative and supportive working environmentStrong focus on professional development and career progressionCompetitive senior-level salary and benefits packageIf you are interested in the above role, click apply or email your CV to
