Senior Psychologist - Irish Prison Service – Dublin
Senior Psychologist required for a locum position with the Irish Prison Service, Dublin.
This role is based on two sites: Mountjoy Prison High Support Unit and Cloverhill Prison.
The client group includes individuals who are mentally unwell in prisons, including those awaiting a bed or returning from the National Forensic Mental Health Service as a step-down.
Mountjoy Prison is a closed, medium-security prison for adult males, serving as the main committal prison for Dublin city and county. Cloverhill Prison is a similar facility primarily for remand prisoners from the Leinster area.
As a Senior Psychologist, you will be responsible for completing and supervising comprehensive assessments and formulating individual cases, as well as developing behaviour monitoring procedures.
You will contribute to multidisciplinary Care and Management Planning, ensuring recommendations are linked to individual formulations, and will engage in evidence-based psychological interventions as outlined in the Care and Management Plan.
Your duties include assessing and intervening with individuals referred to the IPS Psychology Service for various mental health difficulties, offence-specific needs, and other presentations such as developmental disorders, cognitive decline, traumatic brain injuries, and cultural considerations.
Interventions involve evidence-based group and individual therapies. Prison-based Psychologists maintain contact with community agencies involved in support and resettlement and work with families and carers. Where appropriate, time-limited community interventions support transitions from custody to community.
The service also provides consultation, training, and education to support the broader IPS organization and criminal justice partners.
