We are currently seeking a Senior Speech & Language Therapist to join the Psychiatry of Later Life team within Midlands Mental Health Services, based in Portlaoise. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with older adults presenting with complex mental health, cognitive, and communication needs within a specialist multidisciplinary setting.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Speech & Language Therapist:
Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of communication and swallowing disorders in older adults
Work with service users presenting with conditions such as dementia, delirium, and other mental health disorders
Deliver dysphagia assessment and management in line with best practice guidelines
Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatry, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, and social work
Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based treatment plans
Provide education and training to staff, families, and caregivers
Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service audits and development initiatives
Requirements for the Senior Speech & Language Therapist:
Degree in Speech & Language Therapy
Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience
Demonstrated experience in dysphagia management
Experience working with older adults or within mental health services desirable
Strong clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills
Experience in Psychiatry of Later Life or geriatric services
Postgraduate training in dysphagia or related areas
Previous experience within HSE or similar public health services
