Industrial Electrical Technician – Job Description
We are looking for an Industrial Electrical Technician to support the day-to-day electrical running of plant and equipment. This role involves working alongside the fitter/welder and diesel mechanic, keeping all electrical systems safe, reliable, and operating properly.
You must be confident with industrial controls, fault-finding, and hands-on work. Strong real-world industrial experience is more important than paperwork.
Main Responsibilities
* Carry out electrical maintenance, repair, and installation work across all plant and machinery.
* Change motors, align shafts, terminate cables, and commission replacements.
* Build and wire electrical panels, including layout, mounting, trunking, and control wiring.
* Diagnose faults on motors, panels, cables, sensors, and control systems.
* Work with PLCs, soft starts, contactors, overloads, relays, and safety circuits.
* Maintain and troubleshoot VFD drives (setup, parameter changes, and fault resets).
* Assist the mechanic and welder during breakdowns, repairs, and upgrades.
* Support daily plant operations by keeping electrical systems running safely.
* Carry out preventative electrical maintenance and electrical safety checks.
* Manage small electrical projects and upgrades (lighting, cable runs, panel upgrades).
* Ensure all work meets electrical safety and compliance requirements.
* Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Requirements
* Strong experience as an industrial electrician or electrical technician.
* Skilled in motor changes, panel wiring, and control systems.
* Ability to fault-find and repair electrical issues quickly and safely.
* Experience with PLCs, contactors, soft starters, and VFDs.
* Good understanding of industrial motors, sensors, and control wiring.
* Ability to work independently and make decisions during breakdowns.
* Safety-focused, reliable, and able to work as part of a small team.
Optional but Beneficial
* Experience with heavy plant or recycling machinery.
* Ability to assist with basic mechanical repairs when needed.
* Knowledge of hydraulics or basic PLC programming.
* Experience retrofitting older machines or upgrading electrical systems.
