We take a trauma-informed approach to the way we work and foster this culture in every aspect of the organisation, including a focus on the health and wellbeing of our staff.​​Domestic Abuse ServiceCOPE Galway Domestic Abuse Service supports and empowers women, children and young people who are subjected to domestic abuse. Based in Modh Eile House, we offer a range of services including a 24/7 confidential helpline, safe refuge accommodation, outreach services throughout Galway, and court accompaniment. We also provide domestic abuse training and awareness programmes.Our dedicated children and young people's service, Solas Óg, provides one-to-one and group therapeutic supports for children and young people up to 25 years, and delivers healthy relationship workshops in schools and youth groups in Galway.We listen, believe and support women, children and young people on their journey toward a life free from domestic abuse.​​The Role​COPE Galway is a Trauma Informed Organisation and as this unique role bridges frontline service expertise with creative communications and design. The Survivor-Centred Design & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing all materials, digital content, and resources used by and for survivors of domestic abuse. This includes websites, microsites, templates, forms, merchandise, and information documents.​Key Responsibilities​1. Co-Design & Survivor Engagement​• Develop and maintain ethical, safe, and respectful channels for engaging victims/survivors in the design and review of all materials.• Organise and facilitate focus groups, interviews, and feedback sessions with survivors, frontline staff, and support workers.• Synthesise feedback into clear, actionable design and content guidelines.​2. Research & Best Practice Integration​• Conduct ongoing research into national and international best practice in trauma-informed design, digital safety, and domestic abuse communications.• Review and analyse materials from partner organisations to inform our approach.• Stay updated on policy, legislation, and sector standards relating to domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence (DSGBV) communications.​3. Content & Material Development​• Create digital content for the Domestic Abuse Service, including input to COPE Galway DA website pages, microsites, and online resources, with integrated safety features (e.g., quick-exit buttons).• Develop print and digital materials such as information booklets, service introduction packs, and training materials.• Support the development of sensitive, safe merchandise and survivor welcome packs.​4. Collaboration & Coordination​• Work closely with the Head of Domestic Abuse Service, Domestic Abuse managers and teams to ensure all materials reflect frontline practice and service philosophy.• Work with the Head of Development and COPE Galway Marketing and Communications team to ensure messaging, tone and brand consistency while applying trauma-informed design principles.​5. Evaluation & Improvement• Establish feedback loops to continually assess the effectiveness and safety of materials from survivor and staff perspectives.• Use analytics, survivor feedback, and frontline insights to iteratively improve digital and print resources.Document and share learnings on survivor-centred design within the organisation and sector.​Person SpecificationThe ideal candidate will have a proven interest in the area of Domestic, Sexual and Gender Based ViolenceEssential experience and skills​•Third-level degree or qualification in a relevant marketing, creative, digital or related field.•Strong design skills and proficiency editing software including Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro.•Experience with website content management systems.•Minimum of 3 years' experience in a communications, design, or community development role, preferably within the non-profit, health, or social care sector.•Proven experience in co-design, participatory research, or working directly with vulnerable or marginalised groups.•Excellent written and visual communication skills, with proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).•Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.​Desirable experience and skills​•Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and its application to design and communications.•Experience with charities or nonprofit organisations•Familiarity with website and social media analytics tools.•Understanding of web and design accessibility and optimisation principles.•Interest in emerging tech and AI in design.​Core Competencies​•Survivor-Centred Mindset: Deep commitment to the principle "Nothing About Us Without Us."
