Facilities Technician – UPMC Whitfield Hospital

Overview of Role: Support the Facilities/Utilities team. Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor & Facilities Manager, the role involves day‑to‑day maintenance of the site Facilities/Utilities systems, building fabric and plant.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities:
* Complete and keep Helpdesk jobs & PPM tasks up-to-date to ensure reporting systems and monitoring responsibilities are maintained.
* Act as a Facilities Maintenance Technician in the Whitfield Hospital‑wide Facilities Team including the Projects Team and satellite sites in Cleaboy, SETU Arena, Carlow and Cork.
* Participate in site energy (gas, electricity & water) initiatives to continuously improve energy use and reduce consumption.
* Support the Facilities Manager with promotion of Energy Awareness and Sustainability (ISO 50,001 Energy Management system).
* Assist the Facilities Manager, Projects Team & Bio‑Medical Engineers with managing on‑site sub‑contractors and specialist visiting engineers to achieve the highest level of service to hospital occupants cost‑efficiently.
* Ensure all new assets are added to the F2 Helpdesk/Asset database and PPM schedules are set up according to guidelines.
* Support the Facility Supervisor/Manager & Bio‑Medical Engineer with maintaining correct materials/stock levels for preventive & reactive work per budget guidelines.
* Assist with operation and maintenance of building services across technical disciplines, in compliance with the job specification and PPM schedules.
* Ensure all tasks align with UPMC Whitfield Quality/Health & Safety/Facilities Policies and accreditation bodies (HSA/JCI/CHKS).
* Conduct scheduled audits on sub‑contractor performance to secure best value and quality service.
* Promote a Health & Safety culture throughout designated Facilities/Utilities plantrooms.
* Contribute to site utility operations maintenance planning and energy management.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Qualified Mechanical, Electrical or Maintenance Technician (Level 6 HETAC).
* At least 3 years post‑qualification in a Facilities Maintenance role within a regulated industry (healthcare preferable).
* Experience in asset care, maintenance standards, cost savings and minor works projects.
* Strong understanding of maintenance, reliability, safety, quality and regulatory requirements.
* Self‑motivated, “see it – own it – do it” attitude.
* Full driver’s licence.
* Safe Pass certified (desirable).
* Manual Handling certified (desirable).
* MEWP certified (desirable).
* First Aid/Basic Life Support certified (desirable).
