Responsibilities:
1. Liaise with the Project Managers during the design development to construction stage to ensure the services support systems proposed comply with all regulations and requirements.
2. Carry out preliminary designs and design checks on proposed support systems including secondary steelwork, their fixings to the main structure, and the service fixings and hangers.
3. Assess that the impact of the secondary steelwork load is within the capacity of the primary structure and members.
4. Carry out temporary works design, in conjunction with the site Temporary Work, and third parties, especially in connection to services installation, e.g., placing AHUs or other large plant on roofs over atriums.
5. Liaise with the Project Supervisor Construction Stage and the Site Safety Manager regarding design elements.
6. Package all design work for formal checking by the Project Structural Engineer or an external designer, ensuring written confirmation of the design is received and filed.
7. Liaise with the PM to ensure QA requirements related to the design work are fulfilled.
8. Review construction drawings for design elements that may need development and checking.
9. Coordinate with the design team and project coordinator to prioritize and issue necessary information in accordance with the construction schedule.
10. Assist the PM in clearly defining design responsibilities for subcontractors and carry out necessary design checks.
11. Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, planning, and coordination meetings as necessary.
12. Ensure timely close-out of all project items in line with timelines.
13. Issue monthly reports to the Project Manager on all design works undertaken or completed.
14. Develop and implement company procedures with project managers.
15. Verify that builders' works on construction drawings do not compromise the primary structure and obtain formal approval from the Project Structural Engineer.
Educational Requirements:
* Degree qualified in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
Experience and Skills Required:
* Minimum 3 years of design experience.
* Experience developing secondary steel design for MEP services.
* Experience working with structural steelwork, prefabrication, modularisation, or services.
* Strong mathematical and IT skills, familiar with design packages and load capacity data sources.
* Understanding of site technical and feasibility studies, including site investigations.
* Knowledge of structural detailing and calculations.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Interest in furthering expertise.
* Awareness of health, safety, and environmental systems.
