Job Title: Prison Medication Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Prison Medication Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice on medication use, ensuring compliance with policies and guidelines, and participating in the development of guidelines for medicine use.
Key Responsibilities:
* Audit prescribing practices within the prison system to ensure adherence to relevant policies and guidelines.
* Provide expert advice on specialist medications, including those for Hepatitis C and Antiretroviral drugs.
* Support the prison vaccination program regarding logistics, medication management, safety, and pharmacovigilance.
Additional Duties:
* Advise medical and nursing staff on drug use and economy, participating in schemes for disseminating information on drug safety and usage.
* Evaluate and manage risks associated with medication use and participate in the National Incident Management System process.
* Participate in multidisciplinary committees, such as the Drugs and Therapeutics committee.
* Conduct audits and research to promote medication safety and minimize errors.
* Assist with tender documentation and competitions for prison pharmacy services.
* Oversight and management of all prison pharmacy service contracts.
* Provide medication information and training to prison healthcare staff.
* Visit prison pharmacy areas to ensure proper storage, recording, etc.
* Maintain professional competency through continued professional development.
* Support the Chief Pharmacist in their duties and responsibilities as required.
* Work as a member of the prison healthcare team.
Benefits:
This position offers a flexible location, with preferred locations in Dublin, Portlaoise, or Longford. If not Longford, the Chief Pharmacist will attend IPS HQ Longford at least one day a week.
