Role Details:
Contract: Permanent, 36 hours per week
Shifts: Day Duty or Night Duty
Day Duty: 7:45am – 7:45pm
Night Duty: 7:45pm – 7:45am
Breaks: Paid
Pay Rate: Based on qualifications and experience
Premium Rates: Sundays: +25%, Bank Holidays: Double Pay

The Health Care Assistant reports directly to the Person in Charge.
Purpose of the Post
To assist in the provision of care delivery at the highest level of care.
To ensure that residents retain their dignity and privacy.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Health Care Assistant will:
· Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times
· Carry out assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Team Leader e.g. washing, toileting, dressing, undressing, dining and all other aspects of daily living
· Act as the named carer for specific residents as allocated by the Team Leader.
· Respect the privacy and dignity of all residents and promote their independence
· Ensure all resident's living areas and bedrooms are left neat and presentable for residents and visitors of Clearbrook Nursing Home
· Contribute to the moving and treatment of residents to maximise physical comfort, utilising manual handling techniques.
· Provide particular attention to residents who have limited mobility.
· Provide appropriate intimate care for residents in accordance to their care plans and in accordance to the residential home's intimate care policy and procedure.
· Observe care plans and alert nurses regarding any changes in the physical and mental state of the residents.
· Report immediately any incident or potential incident which may compromise the health and safety of residents or visitors.
· Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for the residents, staff and visitors of Clearbrook Nursing Home.
· Communicate with all residents and their relatives/representatives. Ensure that all are made feel welcome and offered refreshments.
· Know all residents by name.
· Assist in the delivery of palliative and end of life care.
· Answer the call bell promptly.
· Contribute to the serving of resident meals, assisting residents to eat and drink as necessary.
· Escort residents when required to travel externally.
· Comply with all policies and procedures relevant to the job role including those that incorporate health and safety, infection control and waste disposal.
· Be willing to achieve FETAC Level 5- Health Care Assistant and undertake appointed on-going training.
· Undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Senior Management.
· Be aware of the confidential nature of the work and in particular, the right of residents to confidentiality. To this end you will not discuss workings of Clearbrook Nursing Home or its residents with people outside Clearbrook Nursing Home.

Qualifications
Essential:
* All staff to have completed education to leaving cert level (or equivalent)
* All staff recruited from the 1st Jan 2015 shall hold FETAC Level 5 (or equivalent) - Health Care Assistant
* Staff recruited between Mar 2008 and the 31st of December 2014, who do not hold a FETAC Level 5 qualification are required to have commenced the training within 6 months of the 1st of Jan 2015.
* Staff employed prior to March 2008 shall have their competency and skills assessed to determine their need for required future training and suitable arrangements shall be in place to identify these needs and ensure that they are implemented.

Professional Knowledge
Essential:
· Knowledge of Residential Care legislation and standards including
· S.I.415 of 2013 Health Act 2007 (Care and Welfare of Residents in Designated Centres for Older People) Regulations 2013 and,
· HIQA's National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland (2016), and others as applicable
· HIQA's National Standards for infection prevention and control in community services (2018)
· Demonstrate sound knowledge of older people
· Previous experience in care of the elderly
· Good literacy skills

· Have good communication and interpersonal skills
