The Organisation
Chime is Ireland’s National charity for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people. Through advice, services and our community we support those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, while also championing for equal rights and advocating for full inclusion in every part of society.
Founded 60 years ago, Chime supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing people living in Ireland through core services that include care, technology and advice and information services. Our social groups, technical experts and dedicated centres create a community of inclusivity that helps Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to feel valued and supported. We have a history of advocacy and are proud to work with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people from every walk of life to create change.
The Role
Chime is seeking to appoint a trustee with experience in one of the following services:

Residential with HIQA experience
Social Worker
Child Support Worker
Speech and Language Therapy
Audiology
Occupational Therapy

Responsibilities

Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings.
Advice on policy development and implementation as required.
Provide advice and expertise on best practices in the Irish healthcare sector that Chime can apply.
Be open to offer advice on areas of expertise with the board and management.

Qualities and skills required

Deep appreciation and knowledge of the healthcare or social care sector in Ireland.
Commitment to Chime’s mission and values.
Commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance.
Experience working in a healthcare setting or oversight role in Ireland.
Board experience would be an advantage.
Time to commit to the role.

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee

Comply with the charity’s governing document
Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
Act in the best interest of the charity
Act with reasonable care and skill
Manage the assets of your charity

Board Meetings
There are six board meetings a year. Meetings are typically held on Monday evenings from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm in North Frederick Street, Dublin 1.
Each trustee is expected to join a board sub-committee. Sub-committees usually meet six times a year for 1 to 2 hours.
There is an annual AGM and one strategic planning meeting annually.
