Commercial Underwriting Manager Job Spec Duties (to include but not limited to): Day-to-day responsibility for the running of the department, including HR matters, staff appraisals, morale, attendance, and departmental objectives in collaboration with other departments. Train and act as a point of referral to commercial underwriting staff while encouraging self-sufficiency in underwriting decisions and broker relationships. Oversee annual income growth as provided by the Board, manage loss ratio performance to acceptable levels of Capital Providers, and maintain strong relationships and stakeholder management with Capital Providers. Account for broker enquiries, report on sales, conversion, renewal retention, and broker trends, and ensure consistency in how the department deals with supporting brokers. Ensure an ever-increasing number of supporting brokers with Commercial products under board direction and accompany the sales director (or visit independently) to strengthen broker relationships. Attendance and presentation of department sales stats at monthly management meeting Work alongside the Marketing Department to drive product awareness to the broker market and drive enquiries to the Commercial Department Ensure KennCo service levels are maintained, including document flow, account queries, complaints, referrals, and overall departmental efficiency. Provide weekly and monthly reporting on sales and performance, assist in sales analysis and rating feedback, and support best practice in departmental operations. Head up product development, wordings, pricing, with responsibility for product improvements where applicable. Manage total adherence to capital provider binders, CPC requirements, regulatory directives, and insurer audits in conjunction with Compliance. Oversee efficient processing of new business, adjustments, and renewals on the bespoke insurer system. Advocate for system development to improve efficiencies within the Department Periodic re-evaluation of department processes to ensure the most efficient tools and procedures are being used Adhere to company policy in regard to advertising, product awareness, and customer service. Follow directives as provided by the Board or Managing Director in connection with the running, strategy, and direction of the Commercial Department. Other duties and responsibilities may be required by the Directors/Managements Requirements Proven experience in commercial insurance sales, with strong technical knowledge across commercial lines. Proven experience in a senior underwriting or underwriting management role. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team. Excellent commercial awareness and understanding of market dynamics. Demonstrated track record of delivering profitable underwriting results. Strong broker relationship management and negotiation skills. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and governance frameworks in insurance. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Proficient in underwriting systems and Microsoft Office suite.
