Transport Manager – STL Logistics & Warehousing

The Role
Transport Manager will be responsible for the effective, compliant, and commercially efficient operation of STL’s transport activities. This includes managing a team of planners and compliance professionals, day‑to‑day transport operations, driver management, fleet utilisation, maintenance oversight, cost control and ensuring we meet customer expectations consistently.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead daily transport activities across multiple STL sites.
* Manage and mentor a team of Transport Planners and Compliance Officers.
* Ensure effective route planning, driver deployment, load optimisation, and service‑level performance.
* Maintain high standards of RSA compliance, tachograph/WTD adherence and customer KPI delivery.
* Oversee STL’s fleet of trucks, trailers, forklifts and ancillary equipment.
* Manage preventive maintenance schedules, inspections, breakdown response and engineering documentation.
* Work closely with STL’s repair and testing facility, external garages and OE providers.
* Support fleet‑renewal strategy, specification and procurement of vehicles.
* Reduce downtime and enhance fleet reliability through strong engineering controls.
* Support the Transport P&L with strong cost tracking and monthly financial insight.
* Control expenditure across fuel, tyres, maintenance, hire vehicles and contractor usage.
* Monitor KPIs including cost per mile, MPG performance, contractor dependency and utilisation.
* Identify commercial and operational efficiencies to improve profitability.
* Provide strong leadership to drivers, planners and compliance teams.
* Enhance internal audit processes, compliance records and SA/HSA documentation.
* Support accident investigations and corrective actions with the Group HR & Risk team.
* Ensure STL maintains a reputation for safety, reliability and operational excellence.
Skills & Experience Required
* 3–5 years’ experience as a Transport Manager, Senior Planner or Fleet Manager.
* Strong knowledge of Irish transport legislation and RSA/WTD compliance.
* Experience leading teams (planners, compliance or operational staff).
* Exposure to fleet engineering, maintenance planning or garage/workshop coordination.
* Strong financial understanding of transport costs and P&L structures.
* Excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills.
* CPC qualification desirable but not essential.
