We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery of multiple projects throughout the Midlands. This pivotal role demands strong commercial leadership, strategic collaboration, and analytical insight, offering a defined progression path towards a Commercial Manager position.
Responsibilities
Role Overview
The successful candidate will assume full commercial responsibility for designated projects, working in close partnership with General Works Managers, Project Managers, and site teams to ensure effective project delivery, value optimisation, and robust risk management.
Key Duties
·Lead the development and implementation of the commercial strategy for assigned projects.
·Conduct feasibility studies to assess viability and inform decision-making.
·Manage cost control processes, including cost-benefit analysis, budgeting, and forecasting across all phases of the project lifecycle.
·Oversee the preparation and agreement of valuations, variations, and final accounts.
·Prepare and manage regular cost/value reports, providing updates on risk, opportunities, and overall commercial performance.
·Mentor and supervise junior Quantity Surveying staff, supporting their professional growth.
·Collaborate effectively with pre-construction, design, and delivery teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
·Ensure strict adherence to all contractual obligations and company procedures.
·Participate in estimating activities and assist with the preparation of tender submissions.
Experience
Key Attributes:
·Demonstrated experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within civil or infrastructure projects
·Comprehensive knowledge of contract administration
·Proven record of providing commercial leadership on contracts valued at over €5M
·Capability to lead teams and positively influence commercial outcomes among diverse stakeholders
·Proficient in cost reporting, valuations, claims preparation, and contract negotiations
·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, combined with strong commercial awareness and meticulous attention to detail
·Ability to effectively balance assertiveness with diplomacy when engaging with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
·Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related field
·Chartered status or actively pursuing chartership (RICS, SCSI, CIOB, or equivalent)
·Knowledgeable in CVR, dispute resolution, and legal frameworks
·Commitment to continuous professional development in contract law, negotiation, and emerging industry trends
