TITLE: Field Quality Technician – Building Envelope Systems
REPORTING TO: Regional Director.
LOCATION: Work from Home / Site-Based Weekly (Europe-wide travel expected)
Role Summary
The Field Quality Technician is responsible for conducting site-based quality audits and inspections across all building envelope systems — including roofing, curtain walling, cladding, rainscreen, and doors. The primary focus is to ensure that installation works meet project specifications, industry standards, and internal quality benchmarks. This role will support operational teams by confirming compliance with hold points, verifying FOKs, and driving a high standard of workmanship throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Site-Based Quality Assurance
* Conduct regular quality inspections across all live projects.
* Ensure hold points, first-off installations (FOKs), and sample areas are reviewed and approved as per project requirements.
* Monitor installation quality for roofing, cladding, curtain walling, doors, and rainscreen systems.
* Identify non-conformances early and work with site teams to ensure timely rectification.
* Support project teams in implementing QA processes effectively on site.
Audit & Documentation
* Complete detailed audit reports using standard templates, highlighting any defects or areas for improvement.
* Record and track recurring quality issues and escalate trends to senior management.
* Ensure quality records, sign-offs, and inspection checklists are properly maintained and uploaded to the project system (e.g., Procore).
* Provide photographic evidence of compliance and non-compliance where required.
Coordination & Communication
* Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, and QA/QC teams to coordinate inspection timelines and access.
* Work closely with Crowns Quality Manager, providing necessary information and co-ordinating the implementation of processes on site and within the business.
* Attend site quality meetings to provide input on technical quality performance.
* Flag potential quality risks early and provide recommendations for preventative measures.
Standards & Training
* Ensure compliance with company QA procedures and project-specific requirements.
* Promote quality best practices across teams and support upskilling through lessons learned and toolbox talks.
* Champion 2 Monthly Lessons learned awards, linking in with Crowns Quality Manager.
* Stay updated on industry standards for roofing and façade installation and relay relevant updates to the wider team.
Required
Person Specification:
* 5 – 10 years’ experience in façade, roofing, or external envelope construction.
* Extensive understanding of QA/QC processes and practical site-based installation standards.
* Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving quality issues.
* Experience auditing or inspecting envelope works (roof, curtain walling, cladding, doors, etc.)
* Ability to travel frequently across Europe to project sites.
Preferred
* Experience using inspection/reporting tools (e.g., Procore, Field View, BIM 360).
* Certification in Quality Control or Inspection is a plus (e.g., ISO 9001 Auditor, CQI, or similar).
* Valid Safe Pass or equivalent construction site certification.
