We are currently seeking a
Medical Social Worker (FTC)
for a leading hospital in Dublin, Ireland.
Responsibilities
Provide a professional medical social work service to patients referred to the Medical Social Work Department.
Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for patients, families, and carers to identify social factors affecting health and wellbeing.
Offer support, counselling, and guidance to patients and their families during their hospital stay.
Develop and coordinate safe and effective discharge plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Work closely with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure patients receive a holistic psychosocial service.
Liaise with HSE, statutory organisations, and voluntary agencies to support patient discharge and access to community resources.
Provide professional advice to the multidisciplinary team regarding psychosocial issues affecting patient care and recovery.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in line with professional standards and departmental policies.
Contribute to the development and management of the Medical Social Work Department through participation in projects or assigned responsibilities.
Stay updated with current legislation, policies, and best practices, while actively engaging in continuous professional development.
Requirements
Hold a National Qualification in Social Work (NQSW) or equivalent recognised qualification.
Current CORU registration as a Social Worker is required.
Experience working in an acute hospital setting is desirable.
Membership in a relevant specialist interest group and participation in audit or quality improvement initiatives is advantageous.
Additional postgraduate qualifications or training in a relevant area are desirable.
Ability to manage an independent caseload and provide effective, person-centred social work services.
Strong multidisciplinary teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a hospital environment.
Demonstrated clinical knowledge and understanding of current issues in Medical Social Work, applying evidence-based practice.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, report writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Demonstrated organisational, IT, and professional development skills, including flexibility, effective use of supervision, and the ability to contribute to group work and project initiatives.
