Job Purpose
To assist in the provision of care to our residents and work as part of a team to achieve excellent standards. To ensure clients retain their dignity and individuality and to be involved in the general activities of the nursing home.
Key Responsibilities
Support and assist clients with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing and all other aspects of daily living, ensuring the highest levels of care.
Assist clients with physical, emotional and spiritual care needs, providing attention while maintaining comfort and dignity.
Use aids effectively to help clients with limited mobility or learning difficulties.
Monitor clients for confusion or behavioural problems and report findings.
Assist in maintaining continence.
Provide care for clients who are dying or have progressive illnesses, including assistance with last rites.
Facilitate social activities, helping clients continue hobbies and participation in the care centre.
Answer nurse call systems, door and telephone, and pass messages promptly.
Report on clients’ wellbeing under senior care staff supervision.
Perform regular checks on clients at intervals set by senior staff.
Welcome visitors, offer refreshments and assistance when required.
Prepare and change beds, keep rooms clean and tidy, and manage waste disposal in line with policy.
Use nursing home resources appropriately and maintain equipment such as wheelchairs, hearing aids and spectacles.
Ensure client clothing and rooms are recorded, marked and cared for.
Maintain privacy and dignity for dying clients and bereaved families, following policy.
Assist with meal times, considering swallowing difficulties and dietary requirements, and clean up as needed.
Escort clients to and from the nursing home for social outings, hospital visits, etc.
Act with maximum integrity in all dealings with clients’ personal and financial affairs to avoid abuse of the privileged relationship.
Qualifications
Genuine interest in working within a caring environment.
Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
Willingness to be a team player.
FETEC/NFQ5 or equivalent and willingness to participate in training and development.
Work permit transfers can be facilitated.
