Positioned as a highly commercial market leader in the UK and Ireland, the company continues to expand its footprint and capabilities across the sector. As part of this exciting growth trajectory, they are now seeking to appoint a Commercial Director to join the C-suite team.
The Role
This Commercial Director appointment is a pivotal leadership role, with full commercial responsibility across the group. The successful candidate will drive commercial strategy, enhance operational performance, and identify opportunities for sustainable growth and manage commercial risk. This role will ideally be based out of one of their key sites in Ireland or the UK, and due to the need for in-market presence, it would require regular international travel within the region.
Specific Responsibilities would include:
* Own full commercial responsibility across all projects, driving performance against turnover and EBITDA targets.
* Lead strategic planning, budgeting, and long-term commercial forecasting in alignment with business objectives.
* Develop and implement robust systems for contract management, risk mitigation, and commercial reporting.
* Represent the business in high-level client negotiations and foster strong stakeholder relationships.
* Oversee commercial delivery across all contracts, ensuring operational teams are resourced and supported.
* Guide and approve project financials including cost-to-completion, re-budgets, and procurement strategies.
* Ensure proactive resolution of claims, disputes, and contractual issues across multiple jurisdictions.
* Embed continuous improvement, commercial best practices, and team development across the function.
The Person
The successful candidate will demonstrate a blend of strategic vision and operational excellence, with full commercial responsibility for all projects across the group. The ideal candidate will bring over 15 years of senior commercial leadership experience within the water, infrastructure, construction, or MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) sectors. Key to success will be the ability to build and mentor a high-performing commercial team, introduce robust systems and processes, and proactively identify both risks and opportunities across the business.
Specifically, we are looking for high achievers with the following experience and competencies:
* Proven track record of leading commercial teams across complex, multi-jurisdictional project portfolios.
* Expertise in contract negotiation, cost control, claims resolution, and commercial risk management.
* Strong working knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, and IChemE contract forms.
* Experience in developing and scaling commercial functions, including implementing processes to proactively identify risks and opportunities.
* Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain top commercial talent.
* Familiarity with SAP or similar enterprise systems is advantageous.
* Solid understanding of project management principles and cross-functional collaboration.
* Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline, with relevant industry certifications preferred.
What’s on offer:
* Progressive Commercial Director opportunity in a highly commercial and ambitious market leader in its sector.
