Dublin Dental University Hospital (DDUH)Porter – Permanent Full-TimeThe DDUH is seeking to recruit a Porter for the Buildings and Maintenance Department. This is a full-time permanent contract reporting to the Head Porter.Outline of Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will integrate with a team of 2 porters and a senior porter and the duties are to ensure the efficient provision hospital portering of service delivery.Main tasks include but are not limited to:Opening Hospital for useDisarm intruder alarm for the 3 buildings.Unlock all areas of the building – Lecture Theatre, Seminar rooms etc.Lights on in all stairwells / walkways.Switch on gas unit for labs.Ensure all fire exits are clear from obstruction.Porter desk dutiesReceiving external phone calls and directing same.Assisting patients with queries and directions etc.Assisting staff and students.Monitoring Access control system.Internal and external post deliveries.Dealing with external contractors and visitors.Labs – plaster labCleaning of lab on a daily basis (benches, machines, sinks etc).Boil out tank to be cleaned weekly.Replenish lab stock when required.Collecting lab for courier collection to external labs.Research LabDelivery of samples from Hospital to research Lab.Talking in of large delivery for Lab.General DutiesRecycling of waste paper from the 3 buildings.Emptying of confidential bins.Assist with disposal of all waste (clinical, domestic, WEEE etc).Up Keep of back lane and surrounds of the Hospital.Extra dutiesSetting up for afterhours events and courses being taking place in the Hospital.General duties to assist in whatever manner and without notice – fetching, delivering carrying.Person SpecificationYou will be required to work a rostered 4-week cycle shift pattern.Week days can be rostered between 07:00am – 21:00pm.One weekend in four to be worked – Saturday 09:00am – 17:00 and Sunday 13:00pm – 17:00pm.You may be required to cover sick leave at short notice.Good communication skills.Polite, friendly and helpful to staff, students and the general public.Be positive when dealing with people and requests.Full training will be provided.Knowledge, Experience and QualificationsIdeally from a commercial industry background.A minimum two years of experience of dealing with public.A minimum 2 years Hospital experience would be an advantage.Genuine desire to assist people.Some computer experience would be an advantage.A strong work ethic.Hands on approach.Some knowledge of HS procedures.Ability to work unsupervised.Closing date for receipt of applications is 31st October 2025 at noonInterviews are expected to take place on week commencing 10th November 2025.
