This role requires two days per week in our Kilkenny HQ.
This is a high-impact senior role reporting directly to the Chief Engineer. You'll have real influence over the future of an award-winning FinTech company, recently recognized as one of Ireland’s best places to work.
You will play a key part in Fintua’s backend modernization journey—helping transition from PHP to C# to align with the wider development team’s expertise. This journey offers direct exposure to the heart of our platform, followed by the opportunity to help shape the future of our flagship Comply product.
We’re seeking a mid-level backend developer with ~5 years of experience. This role is a mentored growth path, with training in C#, AWS, and architecture. You'll work closely with senior engineers and leadership to build toward a future Principal Engineer role.
To support your progression, we provide structured mentorship, learning opportunities, and performance-based bonuses. While initial delivery may be slower, we’re committed to investing in long-term internal talent.
You'll contribute to aligning backend systems with our evolving C#-based stack while maintaining existing PHP Laravel systems. You'll also support our transition to a self-service architecture within Comply—driving faster onboarding, improved scalability, and international expansion.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the migration from PHP/Laravel to scalable, cloud-native C# services.
* Maintain and extend existing PHP Laravel applications with the support of an established team.
* Contribute to the design of serverless infrastructure and execution environments (experience with serverless models is essential).
* Collaborate on the rollout of a self-service portal in Comply.
* Promote best practices in coding standards, testing, and design patterns.
* Work cross-functionally with DevOps, frontend, and product teams to align delivery with business objectives.
* Help implement a Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDLC) alongside DevOps and engineering leadership.
* Champion performance, reliability, and maintainability in backend systems.
* 8+ years of overall software development experience.
* 5+ years in C# and 2+ years with PHP Laravel.
* Track record of migrating legacy systems to modern stacks.
* Comfortable working in AWS environments (Lambda/Fargate, DynamoDB/NoSQL, RDS).
* Familiarity with serverless and cloud-native architecture.
* Solid grasp of microservices and event-driven design.
* Experience working in Agile, collaborative environments.
* Clear communicator, strong problem solver, and self-driven contributor.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Nice to Have
* Experience using AI tools to assist in codebase migration.
* Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
* Background in fintech, tax, or compliance domains.
* Understanding of multi-tenancy and secure data isolation.
* Exposure to frontend frameworks (React or similar).
* Appreciation for performance testing and high-throughput system design.
