Commissioning Lead - Data Centre Projects

A well-established European specialist delivering complex mission-critical infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead for a major data centre development in Dublin.
This is a senior, site-based role with responsibility for the planning, coordination, execution, and successful handover of Mechanical and Electrical commissioning activities, including all critical systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring systems are delivered safely, tested thoroughly, and handed over in line with client and regulatory requirements.
Role Overview
The Commissioning Lead will manage the full MEP commissioning lifecycle, from early design review through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), client acceptance, and final handover. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate specialist vendors, and manage complex interfaces across mechanical, electrical, and controls packages.
You will work closely with project management, construction, QA/QC, safety, and authorised person (AP) teams to ensure commissioning activities align with the wider project programme and safety objectives. This role requires strong technical capability, clear leadership, and the ability to operate effectively in live, high-risk environments.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage the integrated Mechanical and Electrical commissioning programme.
Lead commissioning input during design review, construction readiness, and pre-energisation phases.
Identify and mitigate commissioning risks, interface challenges, and programme constraints.
Oversee all Mechanical and Electrical commissioning activities, including vendor-led works.
Manage commissioning of critical systems, including:
LV, MV, and HV electrical systems, switchgear, UPS, generators, and protection systems
Mechanical systems such as HVAC, chilled water, pumps, controls, fire protection, fuel oil, and process water
Act as the primary commissioning interface with vendors, subcontractors, and client representatives.
Plan and attend FATs, SATs, FWTs, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
Chair commissioning meetings and drive action closure.
Ensure all commissioning activities comply with EHS, QA/QC, and AP requirements.
Oversee commissioning documentation, including test scripts, method statements, compliance records, and handover dossiers.
Provide regular progress reporting to senior project management, highlighting risks and mitigation measures.
Candidate Profile
Degree-qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent commissioning background.
10+ years' experience in commissioning roles on large-scale construction projects.
Proven experience delivering commissioning on data centres or other mission-critical facilities.
Strong technical knowledge of LV/MV/HV electrical systems, mechanical systems commissioning, and controls integration.
Experienced in Integrated Systems Testing and phased energisation.
Confident leader with strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills
