The CNS will focus initially on the following patient groups: patients with CF conditionsThe post holder will have lead nursing responsibility for the care of children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) conditions and respiratory conditions patients, whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team. The post holder will work in conjunction with the Respiratory team to ensure the provision of quality care. They will provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and support in the management of this patient group.Key roles of the CF/Respiratory CNM2:To be a Clinical Expert within the speciality.To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the patient and their families.Ensure that discharge planning is commenced at the point of admission, liaising with the multidisciplinary team, other departments, hospitals, homecare teams and community services.Assess the educational needs of families about their conditions to include medications and treatment.Provides staff educationMaintain and update individual patient protocols in conjunction with the appropriate consultant.Plan and assess patient care together with the medical and nursing team.Assisting with organising of CF clinics.Essential Criteria:Be a registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registeredANDBe registered in the division(s) of the Childrens Nursing with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireannORIn exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case by case basis be registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives.ANDHave a minimum of 1 years’ post registration full time experience or an aggregate of 1 years’ full time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being madeANDHave a minimum of 1 years’ experience or an aggregate of 1 years’ full time experience in specialist area of Respiratory (with a special interest in Cystic Fibrosis)ANDHave successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above) that is relevant to the specialist area of care and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Alternatively provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 9 or higher standard (60 ECTS or above), relevant to the specialist area of care and in line with the requirements for specialist practice as set out by the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery 4th ed (2008). Insert Name of care prior to application* (See **Note below).ANDBe required to demonstrate that they have continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area or will be supported to obtain the required CPD.ANDHave the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.Note: For Nurses who express an interest in CNS roles and who currently hold a level 8 educational qualification in the specialist area (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026. The clinical experience requirements for this cohort of nurses remain consistent with the DoH (2019) policy, i.e. a minimum of 1 years’ experience in practice and a minimum of 1 years’ experience in the specialist area and they could be supported to progress on a candidate CNS Pathway.Post Specific Requirements, Additional Qualifications And Or Experience RequiredThe organisation will consider the post specific requirements or experience required in developing the specific cCNS/ CF service.Have undertaken or agree to undertake, within an agreed timeframe, the Nurse Prescribing of Medicinal Products Certificate.Have undertaken or agree to undertake, within an agreed timeframe, the Nurse Prescribing of Ionising Radiation Certificate.Formally apply for entry onto the Interim ONMSD CNS database (until the database is transferred to its permanent location)Provide an efficient, effective and high quality nursing service, respecting the needs of each service user, family and/or carerEffectively manage time and caseload in order to meet changing and developing service needsContinually monitor the nursing service to ensure it reflects current service user and organisational needsImplement and manage identified changesEnsure that confidentiality in relation to service user records is maintainedUnderstand the need to represent the specialist nursing service at local, national and international fora as requiredMaintain accurate and contemporaneous records and data on all matters pertaining to the planning, management, delivery and evaluation of nursing specialist care and ensure that this service is in line with HSE requirements.Contribute to the service planning process as appropriate and as directed by the Director of Nursing/Line ManagerTo support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.How To Apply & Informal EnquiriesApplications for this post must be accompanied by a cover letter, setting out relevant experience that illustrates how the essential criteria listed above is met.The criterion for short listing is based on the requirements of the post, as outlined in the eligibility criteria.Please note that you must submit a cover letter with your CV, this forms part of your application and CV’s will not be accepted without a detailed cover letter.The closing date for submissions of CV’s and cover letter is Friday 15th August 2025 by 11:45pm.
